Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal arrested with six accomplices, Internet shut down in Punjab till tomorrow
Punjab Police’s action against Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh continues. There are reports quoting sources that Amritpal Singh, chief of Waris Punjab De, has been taken into custody on Saturday. Six companions of Amritpal Singh were also arrested from the border district of Moga. The police chased them and arrested them by laying a siege.
Police arrested Amritpal’s supporters with weapons in Mahitpur, Jalandhar. Hundreds of policemen had converted the areas into cantonments. Actually, the police had already laid a siege on the basis of prior information.
Three police teams were engaged in chasing them. As soon as their car reached near Doaba Hospital in the market, the police surrounded them. The police surrounded them and arrested the people. It is noteworthy that the police of 7 districts were following Amritpal Singh. It is being said that about half a dozen armed supporters of Amritpal have been arrested by the police along with weapons.
It is noteworthy that Amritpal Singh had to come today at 4 o’clock to participate in a religious function at Baisakhi Wala Gurughar in Bhadod town of the district. Meanwhile, the programme did not take place due to protests against the arrest of his colleagues. Sikh organisations with about one thousand people have blocked the Bhadod main highway. People are protesting against the arrest of Amritpal’s supporters and the police action.
The atmosphere in Punjab is tense after the crackdown on Amritpal Singh and his supporters. Internet service has been suspended in Punjab to avoid any untoward incident. Internet services have been suspended in the state till 12 noon tomorrow.
All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks except voice calls will remain suspended from March 18 to March 19 in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab.
Amidst the tense situation, the Punjab Police has appealed to the people to maintain peace. Police said that all citizens are requested to maintain peace and harmony. Punjab Police is working to maintain law and order. Citizens are requested not to panic or spread fake news or hate speech.
