TV Viewing Experience Redefined

Updated: September 14, 2013 2:38 pm

Gone are the days of voluminous television sets. Now is the time of razor thin screens blended with ultra high definition display. Incredible advancement in the TV technologies like OLEDs, 4K and 8K resolution will surely make you spellbound

In this highly digitised world, TV viewing has also changed. From the voluminous television sets to flat screen, TV viewing experience has changed drastically within a decade. In the age of everyday emerging technologies, television industry has changed tremendously. Now the TV viewing is set to get more and more advanced and the experience of watching a TV is going to change in a very different way. With the emerging trends in technologies like high definition and razor thin screens, it is not a distant dream when we will not able to differentiate between reel and real.

Talking about high definition, 4K is the next new big thing in the evolution of TV. The term 4K denotes roughly 4,000 pixels in width which is four times higher than any HD standard display. Also known as ultra-high definition, 4K technology is currently under process in big companies like Sony, Samsung etc. So the question is: how will 4K resolution change the course of TV viewing? The answer is simple; more resolution means more pixels and more pixels means more details. One would get a sharp crystal clear display blended with sleek design through this format.

Another evolution in TV technology is the Super Hi-Vision, a television with 8K resolution and capable of giving a high definition output which is 16 times more than the current full HD display. Also known as Ultra High Definition TV (UHTV), Super Hi-Vision system also has three-dimensional 22.2 surround sound, with three vertical layers of front speakers, two layers of surround speakers, and two subwoofers for bass frequencies. An ideal home cinema system, Super Hi-Vision can be the technology of future.

Organic Light Emitting Diodes, commonly known as OLEDs have proven their mettle to be the future TVs. OLEDs are super thin and uses half the power of current high definition TV. They can provide crisper display than conventional light-emitting diodes (LEDs) or liquid crystal displays (LCDs) used today. So even when there’s fast-moving action or whether you are watching 2D or 3D movie, everything stays razor sharp and crystal clear.

Thinking about next generation TVs, researchers have developed a new form of light-emitting crystals, known as quantum dots which are capable of producing high quality display. The tiny crystals of quantum dots are 100,000 times smaller than the width of human hair and can be printed on a flexible plastic sheet to produce paper-thin televisions. Through this technology one can get giant room-sized screens with best display technology with a cheaper prize. The reason behind this is, quantum dots are made from cheaper semi-conductor materials that emit light when energised by electricity or ultraviolet light. Noticing such advancement in TV technology, consumer would get a myriad TV viewing experience.
