The ‘Virat’ story

Updated: September 22, 2017 12:28 pm

Nine years into his international career and Virat Kohli has become one of the most sought after cricketers, is a role model for youngsters and the whole nation prays for him to score big whenever he comes out to bat. It seems he has taken due note of this adulation and lived up to the expectations so far by scoring loads of runs. As Test captain, he has overseen series wins for India over England, South Africa, West Indies ,New Zealand and recently a whitewash of Srilanka, a feat achieved in 85 years.

Kohli scored only 10, 12 and 19 runs in his debut domestic, ODI and Test matches, respectively. However, today the scenario has changed drastically and he is hailed as one of the greatest batsman in the world. Once known as a brash and hot-headed cricketer, his image, especially since he took over the Test captaincy, has changed to a responsible young leader who plays hard, still gives it back to opposition whenever provoked but respects the opposition immensely.  But how did this transformation come about?

If we focus on Virat, the cricketer and the man, we will find some extraordinary traits—his leadership skills, the ability to keep his cool under pressure, a fearless attitude and a desire to win every game—that have shaped him as he is today. Off the field too, his maturity in handling the media and business acumen testify to his excellent leadership and man-management skills.
