Tension in both Houses of Parliament even today; BJP adamant on an apology
New Delhi: Ruckus continues in Parliament over the statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. No work has been done in Parliament for the fourth consecutive day. Even today the meeting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 pm. The ruling party and the opposition are busy making their own strategy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with senior ministers today before the commencement of Parliament proceedings. At the same time, the opposition parties also held a meeting and decided their strategy. Opposition MPs formed a human chain in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in a short time for their demand.
Members of the BJP created a ruckus in the Lok Sabha on Rahul Gandhi’s statement in London about India’s democracy and some opposition parties, including the Congress, demanded a JPC probe into the matter related to the Adani Group. Due to the ruckus, the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned till 2 pm, about 5 minutes after it started. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to the slogan-shouting opposition members near the podium to go to their places and to the members of the ruling party to calm down.
Birla said, “I want to run the House. I will also ask you (opposition) to sit at your place and will also ask them (ruling party) to sit.” He said that there is a dignity of the Parliament and “Let us maintain the dignity of the Parliament.” The ruckus did not stop. But Speaker Birla adjourned the proceedings till 2 pm.
At the same time, due to the ruckus, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were also adjourned till 2 pm immediately after its commencement. As soon as the proceedings of the Upper House began in the morning, even before Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar sat on the podium, Trinamool Congress members wearing black bands stood on both sides near the podium. Trinamool Congress members were protesting that they were not being allowed to speak. Meanwhile, other opposition members started raising slogans against the government while members of the ruling party were demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi. Dhankhar urged the Trinamool Congress members near the podium to return to their seats, but they turned a deaf ear. The Chairman also warned of action against these members, but seeing no effect, he adjourned the meeting till 2 pm.
