Tata Motors has announced

Tata Motors has announced the launch of a Mine Protected Vehicle, as part of its strategy to enhance the scope of its defence business right up to frontline combat vehicles. The company displayed the vehicle at the DEFEXPO India 2010, a company statement said. The company, which has been a supplier to India ‘s defence and paramilitary forces since 1958, already offers an extensive portfolio of troop carriers and logistics vehicles. The launch of combat and tactical vehicles and equipment will allow it to leverage the entire defence mobility spectrum. The statement said speaking on the occasion, Mr PM Telang, Managing Director (India Operations) of Tata Motors, said, “Our aim is to participate in the entire defence value chain. Besides consolidating our traditional supplies, going forward we will also participate in creating vehicles and equipment specific to the defence sector as also offer our expertise in upgrades and life extension programmes.”

A company release has announced that Tata Motors has appointed Mr Carl-Peter Forster the Group Chief Executive Officer of the company. He will have the overall responsibility of Tata Motors Operations globally, including Jaguar Land Rover. Mr Forster, 55 has twenty-four years of international experience in the automobile industry. Most recently he was the head of General Motors, Europe, where he looked after Opel/Vauxhall, Saab and the European activities of Chevrolet. Before joining General Motors in 2001, Mr Forster has had 13 years of experience in BMW where he held various positions including that of Managing Director of BMW, South Africa, and was also on the Managing Board of BMW responsible for manufacturing.

PTC, the Product Development Company, has announced that Greaves Cotton Limited, a leading manufacturer of industrial products has chosen to expand enterprise wide adoption of PTC’s Windchill across all four-business units Gasoline/Diesel Engines, Diesel Gensets, Automotive Engines, Agro Equipment and Construction Equipment. Windchill will be used to streamline and optimise Greaves Cotton’s product development processes. Greaves Cotton is an existing customer of the PTC Product Development System (PDS), a company release said. The expanded deployment of Windchill will enable Greaves Cotton to reduce time to market for its products, provide tighter communication between Research & Development and Manufacturing and be more responsive to customers’ changing requirements, said a company release.

Jet Airways, India’s domestic and international airline, has announced that it will commence daily non-stop flights from Mumbai to Johannesburg from April 14th, 2010. The airline will introduce services to the Rainbow Nation using a new state-of-the-art Airbus 330-200 aircraft. The launch of this new international route marks the first time that Jet Airways is adding destinations to Africa on its international route network.
