SP’s Internal tussle may benefit BJP
The massive infighting within the SP is only the latest in a series of events that have happened in favour of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. The Yadav Parivar is engaged in mahayudh, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s brother Shivpal has been fighting Chief Minister Akhilesh for a long time now. In a snub to his own son, Mulayam Singh Yadav appointed his brother Shivpal as president of the party’s state unit in Uttar Pradesh. But then Akhilesh goes ballistic and strips Shivpal Yadav of three major ministries. This may be the worst bout of infighting we have ever seen within any political clan in India.
The Yadav Dynasty has a large number of sons, daughters-in-laws, brothers, cousins, nephews and nieces and it is becoming difficult to juggle and satisfy each with a slice of power to everyone.
The infighting in SP has been so horrible that Amit Shah and Mayawati suspected that infighting was a sham and was a drama meant to show Akhilesh in a good light as the “development face” for the youth and cut off from the pathetic old bogey of caste and identity politics. But if indeed this is a staged drama by SP, it must be the stupidest plan ever. This is realpolitik, not a reality show. Congress campaign in UP is a total flop. So, one opponent BSP is hit by daily defections, another is rocked by nasty infighting and the third opponent is generating laughter rather than buzz. It all makes things easy for BJP. Unless BJP reproduces its campaign like that in Bihar.
