Updated: July 30, 2020 2:45 pm

Political disputes and atrocities in West Bengal has become a common phenomenon in past few months and is increasing everyday. The government is battling the Pandemic, which has crossed 50,000 positve cases and is inceasing each passing day, but the adminstration, seldom have time to look after the law and order situation in the state.

The government in Bengal under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee is also gearing up for the litmus test in the up coming assembly elections, which is due in 2021 and this time the opposition for Trinamool Congress in Bengal is not CPIM and Congress, but BJP.

BJP has emerged as the prominent force for the first time in the history of Bengal politics.

Past few months have seen gruesome incidents of deaths, atrocities on women in the state. Let us try to understand the situation, with the incident of suspicious death of a sitting MLA, and two alledged incidents of gang rape and attempt murder.

Speaking to Uday India, Agnimitra Paul, President, BJP Mahila Morcha, West Bengal said, “the law and order situation in Bengal has gone to the doldrum. This government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is trying to silence the opposition. A small girl has been raped in Tarakeshwar by a TMC leader’s son and the chief minsiter is silence”.

She further says, “Being the CM, she is the custodian of the state but she is completely assisting and encouraging such elements, 16 year old girl in Chopra have been raped and poisoned, while in Bashirhat the woman has been gang raped, after forcibly taken out of her house by the hooligans of TMC, who raped her, tying her hands and legs and threw her into a pond, but luckily she survived”.

“Think what kind of state we are staying in and where are we heading. Being a woman, what CM is doing, this is question to her, how many times woman of Bengal have to be raped and molested to get their justice”, fumes Ms Paul.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Police released a statement claiming that they have unearth the real incident. In its statement, the Police said, “Rumour is being spread since morning over an incident in Haroa PS area of Basirhat Police District. Medical examination of the lady was done. No injuries except scratch marks on her back were found and as per the medical report there is ‘No apparent sign of sexual assault” the West Bengal Police also tweeted.

While the circumstances under which the West Bengal MLA and BJP leader Debendra Nath Roy’s died has remained a mystery. His family members are claiming it to be planned murder.

His family has alleged that he was “called and taken out of his house by a group of people around 1 am”, while his nephew Pritish Chandra Roy said his uncle was killed, he says “My uncle cannot commit suicide. He was surely killed. We demand a CBI probe into it,” he added.

Police, however, claim to have found a suicide note of Roy. “We recovered a suicide note from his pocket. He mentioned some financial issues he was into for some days,” said Raiganj superintendent of police Sumit Kumar.

60 year old Roy, was a former CPI (M) member who won from the North Dinajpur district’s Hemtabad constituency in 2016 and joined the BJP last year. He was found hanging at a shop just over a kilometre away from his house in the north Bengal town of Raiganj.

The situation in Bengal is turning bad to worse with each passing day, whatever may be the situation, the daily fight for survival of a common man, has been made difficult by this politics of atrocities and bloodshed.
