Ramcharitmanas Row: Sword attack on Swami Prasad Maurya

Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya has said on Wednesday that he himself was attacked with swords. Maurya wrote a letter to the Lucknow Police Commissioner alleging that Mahant Raju Das, Mahant Paramhans Das of Tapasvi Chawni Temple and their supporters tried to attack him with swords. It is noteworthy that Maurya had created a huge controversy by demanding the removal of some verses of the epic Ramcharitmanas based on the Ramayana, saying that they were targeted at particular castes and sects.

Maurya has written to the Lucknow Police Commissioner alleging that the incident took place when he was leaving from a television show organised at a private hotel in Lucknow. Citing the attack, the SP leader also questioned the security of the hotel and sought additional security for himself. He had earlier alleged that a sadhu had announced a reward of Rs 21 lakh to ‘cut off his head’ over his ‘Ramcharitmanas’ comment.

Earlier, there was a fight between Samajwadi Party’s National General Secretary Swami Prasad Maurya and Mahant Raju Das of Hanumangarhi over the controversial statement on Ramcharitmanas. During the programme of a private channel on Wednesday at the Taj Hotel in Lucknow, Raju Das flared up when he came in front of Swami Prasad Maurya and clashed over the insult of Lord Ram. When there was a fight between the two, the matter calmed down after the intervention.

It is being said that during the debate, Raju Das Paramhans got angry on the fact that Lord Ram was insulted by Swami Prasad Maurya. For this reason, a heated debate started from both sides. Within no time, the atmosphere became more heated and there was even a fight. Raju Das is claiming that the supporters of Swami Prasad Maurya have beaten him up. Because of this, he is going to file a complaint against Maurya.
