Plan boomeranged

Updated: September 10, 2011 4:14 pm

Sending Anna to Tihar has proved to be a big mistake for the UPA government as this resulted in a massive protest and raised a wave of sympathy for Anna’s movement. However, initially government had some different plans. It had decided to send Anna forcefully to his home-village Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra as the government had done previously with Baba Ramdev. A plane was made ready and then the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan was called and informed. CM Chavan strongly objected to this idea and literally pleaded not to send Anna to Ralegan Siddhi as this would create a lot of problems for him. He also reminded his senior leaders that Sharad Pawar was being haunted by Anna and he didn’t want a similar situation for him. Then the government decided to put Anna in Tihar. However, it also resulted in a different set of problems for the government.

Cost of a Letterhead

Can you guess as to how much a letterhead of BJP president Nitin Gadkari costs to get a VIP treatment at Tirupati Temple? It is only few thousand rupees. It may seem funny but it is true that while many BJP grassroots workers failed to get the proper recommendations of their leaders for getting any privilege, a Congress worker got the same easily only for some thousand rupees. Sundeep Katke a ward-level worker of Congress had to go to Tirupati Mandir and he managed to get the letter of national president of BJP Nitin Gadkari to get a VIP treatment there. However, sources said that this facility was not for all as this was available to only the Marathi Manush. Party leaders are wondering if the letterhead of the top party leaders is misused in this manner, how will the hardcore party workers feel?

Chaos in the Party

Anna’s movement has stirred the UPA government and on the other hand the Congress party also appears to be in chaos. First of all, one of its spokespersons, who had blamed Anna to be corrupt, was instructed by Rahul Gandhi not to be seen with the media and in the capital till the movement is brought under control. Then Rahul Gandhi chided the senior party leaders, including P Chidambaram, Pranab Mukherjee, Kapil Sibal etc. This has created a silent rebellion in the party. Pranab Mukherjee especially is very angry with the situation and is also unable to understand that when he had no business with this Anna episode, then why he was rebuked by Rahul Gandhi, a far junior in politics. Many senior Congress leaders are also wondering where the motormouth Digvijay Singh is hiding. Why hasn’t he come out to trouble-shoot the situation, as he did previously during the movement of Baba Ramdev?
