NRIs’ services sought

Mr Salman Khursheed, Union Corporate Affairs Minister, addressing the Pravasi Bharatiya Sammelan, wants NRIs to return the favour. He exhorted the non-resident Indian gathered here in New Delhi, “Time has come to ask the non-resident Indians (NRIs) and people of Indian origin (PIOs) what they can do for the country rather than they asking every time, what can the country do for them. While we are undertaking initiatives to facilitate easier access for NRIs & PIOs to their property in India through changes in law at the State levels, we look at you people to help in designing greater, comprehensive institutional mechanisms through your experiences in the developed countries. You are doing a great job in other countries, come and do something here. Invest in intellectual property, which can do wonders for India ‘s inclusive growth”, the Minister added.

Toyota launches Prius

The World’s largest carmaker Toyota Motor Corp. on Thursday introduced its hybrid version of its highest global seller Prius in the Indian market, priced between Rs 26.55 and 27.86 lakh. This is the second hybrid car offering in the Indian market after Honda’s Civic. The new Prius will be imported from Japan as completely built-up unit and the company aims to sell about 200 units during 2010.

Bajaj Allianz’s new ULIP plan

Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance has announced the launch of yet another innovative ULIP Bajaj Allianz Shield Plus that offers a “minimum guarantee of 170 per cent at maturity and up to 100 per cent allocation of the single premium paid. Shield Plus would be available from January 10, 2010. A company release said this is the first time a ULIP plan is launched which guarantees a minimum of 170 per cent at maturity under Shield Plus fund I, in a 10 year policy term.

MTS registers impressive growth

MTS, the mobile telephony services brand of Sistema Shyam Teleservices Limited (SSTL), has crossed the milestone of three million subscribers in India, a company release said. Brand MTS was launched in India in March 2009 and in less than a year the company has notched up an impressive subscriber base and the number continues to grow at an average monthly rate of over fifteen per cent.
