Now Court orders survey of mosque in Mathura

Updated: December 24, 2022 3:30 pm

In the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah dispute of Mathura, the district court gave an important order on Saturday. Here too, like the Gyanvapi of Varanasi, there will be a survey of the mosque. The Court of Senior Division gave this order on the petition of Hindu Sena. The court has asked both the Hindu and Muslim parties to comply with the order. The report of the survey will be presented in the court on January 20.

The Hindu side claims that the swastika symbol in the Shahi Idgah is the sanctum sanctorum of the deity under the mosque, symbolizing it being a temple. Party Manish Yadav and lawyer Mahendra Pratap said that there is evidence of Hindu architecture in Shahi Idgah. These will come to the fore after the scientific survey. The application was filed a year ago in the district court of Mathura.

It was said in the petition that Aurangzeb had built the Idgah mosque by demolishing the temple on 13.37 acres of land of Shri Krishna’s birthplace. It presented before the court the entire history from the birth of Lord Krishna till the construction of the temple. It also called for the abolition of the 1968 agreement between Sri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sangh vs Shahi Idgah, calling it illegal.

It is noteworthy that the Shahi Idgah mosque is adjacent to the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple complex in the city of Mathura. This place is considered the birthplace of Lord Krishna in Hinduism. Aurangzeb is believed to have built the Shahi Idgah mosque in 1669-70 by destroying the ancient Keshavnath temple built on the birthplace of Shri Krishna.

In 1935, the Allahabad High Court had allotted the disputed land of 13.37 acres to Raja Krishna Das of Banaras. This land was acquired by Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Trust in 1951. This trust was registered in the name of Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sangh in 1958 and Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan in 1977.

In 1968, in the agreement between Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sangh and the Shahi Idgah Committee, the trust got the ownership of this 13.37 acres of land and the management of the Idgah Masjid was given to the Idgah Committee.

Now in the petition filed in this case, a demand has been made to conduct survey and videography of Idgah Masjid.
