Next Level Of Calling
With WhatsApp starting its VoIP service, the demand for internet calling is on rise. But do we know what is VoIP?
Internet and technology has made our life easier and now it has become an integral part of our lives. We are living in a digital world in the sense that our lives are surrounded by a myriad of electronic gadgets, which make us electronically inter-connected with one another in many ways. And all this has become possible just because of internet. Internet has given us the opportunity to make a call much faster and cheaper. Using the VoIP service or Voice Over Internet Protocol one can now make long distance calls via internet.
But what is VoIP?
VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a method in which analog audio signals are taken and are turned into digital data which can be transmitted over the internet. With the advent of android and window gadgets VoIP got a boost. Applications like Skype, Viber, Facebook messenger and now WhatsApp use VoIP. In this set-up, the telecommunication vendor does not need to set up separate infrastructure and all communication data such as calls and messages are routed over the internet which makes it a cheaper and cost-effective solution.
Advantage of VoIP?
VoIP technology encompasses the full range of services in the traditional telephone system like the interconnection of phones, video conferencing, call transfer and forward, as well as the unified message services.
The main advantage of VoIP is that users do not need to pay extra surcharges for calls, Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS).
To get the optimum benefits of VoIP technology, users only need to have a high-speed internet connection such as 3G or 4G or Long-Term Evolution (LTE). VoIP applications require a minimum data rate between 90 kilobits per second (kbps) and 156 kbps for excellent call clarity.
VoIP has become a headache for the network operators though. The use of long-distance calls now can be done with internet and not with the network provided by the operators. In the last 10 years or so, VoIP services have gained tremendous popularity and have also subsequently strengthened their position in the telecommunication industry around the world.
