Maharashtra: NIA gets custody of all accused involved in Amravati chemist’s murder case

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over custody of all the accused involved in the murder of Amravati-based chemist Umesh Kolhe. All seven accused were granted four days of transit remand after they were produced before the Amravati court yesterday. The accused are likely to be produced before the NIA’s Mumbai court on or before July 8. Amravati police have so far arrested seven persons including alleged mastermind Shaikh Irfan. The police are on the lookout for one more suspect Shamim Ahmed in connection with the case.

On June 21, Umesh was allegedly attacked with a knife by a group of three men. Umesh Later died during treatment at the hospital. Later the probe revealed that a crime has been committed with regard to the post related to Nupur Sharma. Kolhe had supported a post on social media in support of Nupur Sharma.

According to reports, a veterinary medical professional Umesh Kolhe was killed on 21st June by some bike-borne murders in Amravati. The city police managed to arrest seven accused along with the mastermind of this murder case on 2nd July. Briefing about this Amravati police commissioner Dr. Aarti Singh informed media that, from the day Umesh Kolhe was killed the police has taken this matter into a serious investigation.

The police was aware of this murder due to sharing of post in support of Nupur Sharma however to maintain the social fabric and harmony of the city the police have handled this matter sensitively. Commissioner of Police clarified that Amravati City police have arrested 7 people so far and 8th accused who was on bike will also be arrested. The city police is cooperating National Investigation Agency in this matter with full support. She also appealed to the people to lodge written complaints with police regarding threat calls over social media posts.

Meanwhile, Amravati BJP unit and other social organizations organized a public condolence meeting for paying tribute to late Umesh Kohli in Amravati yesterday. Dr.Anil Bonde, MP Rajya Sabha from Amravati City has expressed confidence that the city of Amaravati will become a fearless City.
