Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray today filed his nomination for the Legislative Council elections to be held on 21st of this month. Apart from Thackeray, Neelam Gorhe re-nominated by the Shiv Sena also filed her papers today. Uddhav will be the second from the Thackeray family to contest an election. It would also be the first election for him to fulfill the constitutional requirement of getting elected to one of the houses of the state legislature within six months after becoming chief minister.

In October last year, Aaditya Thackeray became the first person from the Thackeray family to contest the polls and enter the state legislature. While Gorhe is a key Sena woman leader, which is why the party has decided to nominate her for another term. Meanwhile, the MLC poll is likely to be unopposed as the Congress yesterday decided to field only one out of two nominees for the MLC elections. Earlier, the Maha Vikass Agadhi alliance partners including Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had decided to contest the council polls on a total of six seats.
