KCR’s Mega Rally in Telangana, Such a scene was seen in Karnataka 5 years back

Updated: January 19, 2023 1:02 pm

Telangana CM K.K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s public meeting was in headlines. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan appeared on the stage with KCR. Five years old picture from Khammam’s public meeting came to mind when similar opposition unity was seen in Karnataka. Then the entire opposition came together for the swearing-in of JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy as CM in Karnataka.

KCR, who has announced his entry into national politics, on Wednesday called a huge public meeting in Telangana’s Khammam, which was attended by Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav, Bhagwant Mann, Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI leader D Raja. The rally was also special because it was held for the first time after KCR’s party Telangana Rashtra Samithi became Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Before the rally, KCR took all the leaders to the Lakshmi Narasimha temple at Yadadri and made them have darshan.

At the rally, KCR targeted the central government saying that the ‘Make in India’ initiative has become a ‘Joke in India’. During this, Akhilesh Yadav taunted PM Modi and BJP. “The BJP will be out of power after 399 days and a new government will be formed on the 400th day,” Akhilesh said, claiming that the ruling BJP was taking the country backward and it was time for all progressive leaders to come together and develop the country. Akhilesh further said, “KCR has gathered such a huge crowd at this historical place of Khammam and has given a message to the whole country.”

Arvind Kejriwal said in his speech, ‘Now the country wants change. People have come to know that these people (NDA government) have not come to change the country. They have come only to destroy the country. The election of the year 2024 is an opportunity for you (the people). It is going to be ten years… how long will you wait?’ Kejriwal said that in many states, governors are troubling elected chief ministers. Actually, it is not the Governor, but PM Modi who is doing this. The governors work on his orders.

Pinarayi Vijayan said, ‘I hope that today, in Khammam, the land of mass resistance, we will have the beginning of a new resistance. There will be resistance to secure the ideals for which we fought in our freedom struggle. This resistance is to protect our secularism, our democracy and the country.

In political circles, this meeting of Khammam is being seen as a preparation for KCR’s third front for 2024. However, BJP is completely unconcerned by this. They maintain that there is no unanimity for the post of PM from the opposition. After Nitish Kumar, Mamta Banerjee, now KCR’s claim has also intensified. In such a situation, instead of BJP vs opposition, this fight is seen more as opposition vs opposition.
