KCR appeals to Centre to withdraw Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022

Updated: September 13, 2022 3:22 pm

The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022, according to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, should be withdrawn by the central government since it will have major negative effects on the poor and farmers. He claimed that the law was a ruse to pressure the states. According to him, the Centre must permit public sector power utilities to operate. Since the Center reintroduced the bill with certain revisions, the TRS administration plans to present a resolution against the power bill in the state assembly. In September 2020, the assembly had passed a resolution against it. According to Rao, the bill contains measures that are detrimental to farmers’ interests and, in particular, those who receive power subsidies, such as Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, barbers, washermen, and weavers.
