It’s raining gold for Indian wrestlers at CWG

Indian wrestlers have done it again. Three Indian wrestlers clinched gold each the same day–Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia and Sakshi Malik clinched gold medals for India. In men’s freestyle wrestling, Bajrang Punia won gold by defeating Canadian Lachlan Mcneil 9-2 in 65kg category while Deepak Punia clinched the gold by defeating Pakistan’s Muhammad Inam 3-0 in 86kg category. Mohit Grewal won bronze by defeating Jamacian Aaron Johnson in 125kg category.

In Women’s Freestyle wrestling, Sakshi Malik bagged gold beating Canadian Godinez Gonzalez by fall in 62kg category while Anshu Malik settled for a silver after losing 3-7 to Nigeria’s Folasade Adekuoroye in 57 kg category. Divya Kakran won bronze medal by defeating Tiger Lily Cocker Lemalie of Tonga by fall in 68 kg category.

India have upped their tally in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games with yet another medal, this time in the Lawn Bowls event. India bagged a gold medal in the Women’s Fours category, thanks to the efforts of Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki and Nayanmoni Saikia. This is India’s first medal in the sport.

In Athletics, India has created a new Asian record in Men’s 4X400m Relay. They have qualified for the finals. India sprinter Hima Das has failed to qualify for the women’s 200m final as she finished third in women’s 200m semi-final with a timing of 23.42 seconds.
In Table Tennis, Sreeja Akula advanced to the semifinals by defeating Mo Zhang of Canada 4-3 in Women’s Singles Quarterfinal.

Manika Batra has qualified for the  Women’s Singles quarter-finals. Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran pair advanced into the semifinal with a 3-0 win over Tom Jarvis and Sam Walker in Men’s Doubles Quarterfinal. In mixed doubles, Achanta Sharath Kamal and Akula Sreeja stormed into the semifinal with a 3-2 win over Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho of England.
