Twelve-year-old  Padmalaya Nanda is the first-ever Indian to win one of the top two Golden Crowns “Little Miss Universe Internet 2017” and bagged other sub-titles at Little Miss Universe 2017

Creating history on the world stage is not a mean achievement. It becomes all the more difficult in a country like India, where parents are more anxious and less conscious to send their children at a world-level competition. Against this backdrop, Padmalaya Nanda, a proud daughter of India, created history as she bagged the prestigious titles, Golden Crown Little Miss Universe Internet 2017,  and also bagged  Little Miss Actress (popularly known as Best Talent of the world) and Little Miss Grand Pix at the Little Miss Universe 2017. The beauty pageant, dedicated to young children, was held at port city of Batumi in Georgia (Europe) and the finale was held on June 4, 2017. Padmalaya won one of the two Golden Crown titles “Little Miss Universe Internet 2017” having a close fight with the Miss Kazakhstan Dayna Alimbayeva who also won Gold Crown “Little Miss Universe 2017”. Padmalaya garnered one of the highest numbers of votes in the world (an indication of her popularity across the globe). This is the first time that a 12-year-old Indian girl won the prestigious titles at an international stage. She will now participate in the “Little Miss World 2017” competition to be held at Greece in September and also face World Final of Junior Model International 2017

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Padmalaya (who is a native of Cuttack, Odisha) said, “It was a rare honour for India and I am happy that I represented my country. The competition was certainly a tough one as young participants from across the globe competed for the coveted title. Today, I can proudly say that I did my best. During the entire competition, I ensured that I represented my country in true spirits.” Padmalaya had mesmerised one and all during various rounds, in which she represented Indian culture in her

talks, dresses and actions. She showcased the culturally rich Sambalpuri Dance (Sambalpuria phulare) during the talent round. Those who watched her dance had only one word to say–Padmalaya is definitely a trend setter. One of the judges exclaimed, “Padmalaya is a trend setter.  This platform has never seen someone as talented as Padmalaya.”  In response to one of the questions, Padmalaya replied, “I have never come to win only the title. Rather I have come here as a cultural ambassador of my country. I am lucky to be an inhabitant of this beautiful Earth. I am proud to represent India, a country that gave the vision thousands and thousands of years ago in Veda saying, i.e. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The whole world is one family). I am also proud to be an Indian which is one of the unique countries in the world.

This is the reason I took help of Sanskrit, Hindi, Odia and English languages in a single poster to present Vaisadhaiva Kutumbakam”.

When asked about her inspiration, Padmalaya said: “Since my childhood I have a passion to work for the underprivileged children. In all past years I always celebrate my birthday  in an orphanage, which is 94 years old, called “Swami Bichitrananda Kalyan Ashram” established in the year 1921. I also celebrate holidays, Diwali, Dussehara and New Year and Odia New Year(14th April)  with them. I have many times donate my piggy bank for these inmates. I feel they are my extended family and I love them. There is a deeper relationship with these inmates. When I got the award they were the happiest persons with my achievement and I was also congratulated. Now I want to work for underprivileged children. I am also interested  to work as an ambassador for Prime Minister’s visionary programme ‘Beti  Bachao, Beti Padhao’. I also want to meet him for this. Any way, I will work for social awareness on this Project of Hon’ble Prime Minister.” She further said that she is now looking forward to represent India in “Little Miss World 2017” to be held at Greece in September and also to participate in the World final of Junior model International at Goa.
