Ignorant Kareena

Updated: October 15, 2014 2:15 pm

While her colleagues in Bollywood are going all out, praising India’s successful Mars Orbiter Mission, actress Kareena Kapoor seems like she doesn’t have a clue. At an event held recently in Mumbai, when the 34-year-old diva was asked to express her opinion on the subject, a visibly flummoxed Kareena could only manage to blurt, “What?” some three times. The actress then asked the journalist to repeat the “very scientific” question in English. And despite an elaborate explanation of the significance of the Mars Mission, all Kareena could manage to blurt out was, “Great. That’s a great day for us. I also want to go to space, meri bhi yahi ichcha hai.” On September 24, India created space history by becoming the first country in the world to enter Mars’ orbit in its maiden attempt, also the cheapest ever worldwide.

Desi Intouchables

When Karan Johar and Guneet Monga announced the Hindi remake of the French hit, The Intouchables, speculations were rife about who would play the two male leads. While the original film revelled in the unlikely camaraderie between an elderly wheelchair-bound man and his black nurse, a leading tabloid has now reported that the Indian adaptation will revolve around two young actors in the same age bracket. Initially, director Mohit Suri had wanted Saif Ali Khan to play the physically challenged tycoon, but Karan Johar insisted on an all young cast. Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapoor have now been shortlisted for the parts and the story is currently being reworked by Mohit and Tushar Hiranandani, who recently wrote Ek Villain. The film will roll after Mohit wraps up his love triangle, Humari Adhuri Kahaani, featuring Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan and Rajkummar Rao.

All Is Not Well

Not all is well with Umesh Shukla’s All is Well, starring Rishi Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and Asin Thotukkmal. Shukla, whose Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG—Oh My God! turned out to be a surprise hit, has also cast Smrita Irani in his next. However, the film has run into major trouble, due to Ms Irani’s—once India’s favourite bahu and now, the minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) in the union government—has a jam-packed schedule. As we all know, ministers in the Modi government work round the clock and have no time for anything or anyone—not even family! As a result, the film has been inordinately delayed. It was slated for a Dec. 5 release but Smriti’s new responsibilities have pushed it to mid-next year.

The author has joined hands with Mohit Suri and Ekta Kapoor who will be on board as co-producers. The book is being launched on October 1 in Mumbai and Delhi. And speculation is rife that Alia Bhatt will play Riya, a posh girl from Delhi, who is the book’s protagonist. It was believed that Kriti Sanon and Huma Qureshi were among the contenders for the role. But now, a leading tabloid has reported that ball is in Alia’s court.
