ICG: The IIS University, Jaipur Heritage Of Vision A Legacy Of Innovation

Updated: June 4, 2011 1:22 pm

The International College for Girls (ICG), Jaipur, is a pioneer centre of learning for women’s education in Rajasthan. With English as the medium of instruction, the founding of ICG was necessitated by the demand for an educational institution which could restrain the migration of girl-students to other metropolitan cities, by offering courses and an academic environment of a world-order. Established in 1995 with just 34 girls and seven members of staff, it grew into a Post Graduate College in 1998. With over 3,200 students, 170 faculty-members (including visiting and part-time) and about 50 technical and non-teaching supporting staff, the ICG has, over the years, earned a high reputation for academic excellence, rich cultural fabric and multi-disciplinary ambience.

ICG has also very recently received the approval of the MHRD, GoI for the conferment of a Deemed-to-be-a-University. The College has been accredited and awarded A+ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous organisation of the University Grants Commission. It is the only college in Rajasthan to have been rated A+, so far. The A+ status given by the NAAC confirms our commitment to academic excellence, which is reflected in the performance of our students who have been securing merit positions in the University, year after year. Identified as a “Model College” by the state government, the College has also been granted an autonomous status by the UGC w.e.f. July 2007.

In a survey conducted by AC Nielson for India Today, the College was not only rated best in the state but also found mention in the list of the top 50 colleges in the country. The introduction of autonomy has enabled the College to design a challenging and innovative curriculum, which is need-based and suited to the dynamic nature of diverse educational requirements. It has also given the College the freedom to adopt contemporary methods of teaching, learning and evaluation, besides accelerating research initiatives.

The College is a member of the IIS Institutional Network, which has under its ambit centres of educational excellence right from the pre-primary education to post-graduate professional courses in Education, Management, Information Technology and Computer Science.

The College is run by the Indian Council for International Amity (ICFIA), 1973, a society registered under the Rajasthan Societies Registration Act, 1958.

The College is housed in a sprawling campus, well-equipped with a fully-automated and richly-stacked library, hi-tech computer labs, spacious classrooms with modern furniture and the latest teaching aids, canteen and playground. A unique feature of the College is its wide network of transport facility across the entire city—keeping in view the convenience and security of its girls. The institution arranges for the transportation of its students to and fro, on payment. This is made possible owing to the large fleet of in-house buses for making the daily commute an easy one.

In addition, there are two centrally air-cooled girls’ hostels and a separate PG girls’ hostel. The management strives hard to ensure homely living conditions, vegetarian food and a disciplined environment. Among other infrastructure facilities, there is also a swimming pool. The pool—on account of being a covered one—is one of its kinds in the state, at any educational institution. There is also an air-conditioned, acoustically-treated auditorium with a capacity for seating 250 people. Its plush interiors and compact size adds to its utility as an ideal venue for hosting national and international seminars, conferences, symposia, workshops, etc.

Standing for a “Heritage of Vision and a Legacy of Innovation”, ICG is a college with a difference. It believes in and promotes women’s empowerment, social service and an all-round personality development of students. At ICG, there is a laid emphasis on the promotion of rich Indian culture and tradition, modern outlook, value education and secular orientation.

The College caters to the academic needs of not only the Indian girl students but also provides special guidance, hostel and other necessary facilities to the NRI students. In its quest for preparing the students to be world-ready women, “Think Global” is not merely a slogan but also the core philosophy, which has helped the students in keeping pace with the fast-changing world scenario.
