Govt procures Pulses & Oil seeds worth Rs. 20,682 crore

Government has told that Pulses and Oilseeds worth Rs. 20,682 crore has been procured benefitting more than 3.25 lakh farmers.

Agriculture Ministry said, a quantity of over two lakh 61,000 tonnes of Pulses and 3.17 lakh of Oilseeds has been procured under Rabi season 2020-21 till 2nd of this month.

Besides, in Rabi Marketing Season, a total of over one crore 87 lakh tonnes of wheat arrived in Food Corporation of India, FCI, out of which over one crore 81 lakh tonnes has been purchased.

The Ministry said, the sowing area coverage of the rice summer crop has increased to over 34 lakh hectares as compared to over 25 lakh hectares during the corresponding period last year.

The coverage area of pulses has increased to over eight lakh hectare coverage under pulses as compared to over five lakh hactare during the corresponding period of last year.

The Ministry said, it is taking several measures to facilitate farming activities at field level during the lockdown period in the wake of Covid 19 pandemic.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme more than nine crore farmer families have been benefitted and an amount of over Rs. 18,000 crore has been released so far during the lockdown period.
