Govt is supplying free food grains, pulses to about 80 crore people under PM-GKAY
Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan has said that massive exercise is underway to supply free food grains and pulses to about 80 crore people across the country under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana- PM-GKAY.
Paswan said, the Government is making efforts to ensure that foodgrains are readily available for distribution in all the States for meeting their requirements under the Yojana.
He said, Food Corporation of India has loaded a total number of 2641 rakes carrying about 74 Lakh Metric Tonnes food grains which is an all time record between the lockdown period from 24th of March to till date.
The Minister also informed that 21 States and UTs have completed more than 90 per cent distribution for the month of April under PM-GKAY covering nearly 41.35 Crore beneficiaries. Some States and UTs including Andaman Nicobar Island, , Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry and Himachal Pradesh are distributing foodgrains for two months in one go under it.
Besides the food grains, the Government is also distributing free one kilogram of pulses to about 19.50 crore households for three months in the country under PM- GKAY.
The Minister said, over 51 Lakh Metric Tonnes of pluses have been distributed 21 States and 5 UTs. Mr Paswan also assured that sufficient food grains supply is available to meet the increased demands and the procurement process is also on track.
Paswan said, under the One Nation One Ration Card” plan, five more States and UTs have been asked to integrate with the National Cluster.
They are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Darda and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Twelve States are ready covered under it.
Now, the facility of national and inter-State portability would be enabled for 60 Crore National Food Security Act- FSA beneficiaries of 17 States and UTs to lift their entitled quota of foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop of their choice by using their ration card.
