Government procures over 262 lakh tonnes paddy
Over 262 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured in the current Kharif Marketing Season, registering an increase of 20.80 per cent over the last year. According to the Agriculture Ministry, paddy procurement is progressing smoothly in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh,Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
The Ministry said, out of the total purchase, Punjab alone has contributed over 185 lakh tonnes which is more than 70 per cent of total procurement. Over 22 lakh farmers have already benefited from the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season procurement Operations with Minimum Support Price outflow of over 49 thousand 527 crore rupees.
Approval has also been accorded for procurement of over 45 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds of current Kharif Marketing Season for the States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh under the Price Support Scheme.
