Draupadi Murmu: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury apologized, said–I did not insult, ‘Rashtra-Patni’ came out of mouth accidentally

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has apologized for calling President Draupadi Murmu ‘Rashtra-Patni’. While talking to the media, he said that I did not say this intentionally, it had come out of my mouth by mistake. Regarding this, BJP MPs demonstrated in Parliament against Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s remarks on President Draupadi Murmu. Thereafter, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 12 noon.

Union Minister Smriti Irani said that the Congress is still unable to accept the fact that a tribal woman is adorning the highest constitutional post of this country. Sonia Gandhi-appointed Leader of the House Adhir Ranjan addressed Draupadi Murmu as rashtra-patni. She said that ever since Draupadi Murmu’s name was announced as the presidential candidate, Draupadi Murmu became a victim of the Congress party’s hatred and ridicule.

Proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament face disruptions due to Congress leader’s comments on President Droupadi Murmu and Opposition protest over price rise and other matters.

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 4 P.M. today amidst pandemonium over a comment made by Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury about President Droupadi Murmu. When the house met after the first adjournment at 12 noon, Mr Choudhary stood up to speak. The members of treasury benches continued to demand an apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi over the comment made by her party member regarding the President. Mr Chowdhury rushed towards the chair along with few others of his party. Sloganeering and allegations and counter allegations took place between the treasury and Opposition benches. As pandemonium prevailed, the Chair adjourned the house till 4 P.M.

Earlier, when the house met for the day, Textiles Minister Smriti Irani took strong objection to the remarks. She alleged that Congress President Sonia Gandhi had sanctioned the act of humiliation against the President. She further alleged the Congress President sanctioned humiliation against Adivasis, the poor and women of the country by doing so. The members of the treasury benches were on their feet while the Congress members objected to the manner in which the matter was raised. Speaker Om Birla adjourned the house till 12 noon as uproar continued
