“Dattatreya is a positive-minded person”
Dattatreya Hosabale is a positive-minded person always ready to be a part of the solution. He is robust and vibrant in his thoughts; meticulous in action. RSS will continue to grow from strength to strength under his able and noble guidance,” said Dr H. R. Nagendra, Vice Chancellor of Sri Vivekananda Yoga Institute, based at Jigani in Anekal taluk of Bengaluru, during his brief chat with our Bengaluru-based Special Correspondent S. A. Hemanth.
For how long you know Dattatreya Hosabale?
Perhaps for about a quarter century, I think more than 20 years. I first met him in a RSS programme. The moment I saw him, I thought that this man is to be watched.
How do you describe him, as a person?
He inspires others; pushes towards finding out a solution; good thing about him is that he is always part of the solution; he is a team builder. Look at the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of which he was the national organising secretary. It’s amazing growth.
Can you recall some of his most notable achievements in his tenure in ABVP?
I know that the cultural-exchange programme undertaken by the students all over the country, something known as “Students Experience in Inter-State Living” (I hope I am correct) is conceived by Dattatraya Hosabale. This has had a great positive impact on the mind-set of the people. This proved to be a catalyst when there was student unrest in different parts of the country on some issues.
Dattatreya Hosabale is the second person from Karnataka to occupy the post of Sarkaryavaha, first being Late H. V. Seshadri. How do you describe both?
Both are inspiring personalities; Seshadri ji was a prolific writer; both are voracious readers; both are team builders; while Dattatreya Hosablale is building a team of good leaders who later took over the task of governance in various states and even at the Centre also, Seshadri ji built a team of intellectual-giants through his writings. In fact, Dattatreya Hosabale attributes his grooming to Seahadri ji and his writings. Both are great and marvellous personalities in their own unique way. Both had attracted people from various walks of life as well established contacts with leaders of different ideological shades.
Both are committed to the Hindutva ideology. You say both had established contacts with leaders of different ideological shades. Can you explain?
RSS never teaches hate. Hindu philosophy is inclusive. We believe that all paths lead to god and moksha, not only Hindu philosophy. Only thing RSS expects to be loyal to the country – Kaya; Vaacha; Manasa – be absolutely loyal to the country, no matter which religion you belong to; or what may be your mode of worship. It is this magnanimous-attitude of the RSS. Dattatreya Hosabale has correctly and fully imbibed and inculcated this philosophy in his personality. That is why he is comfortable in talking to anybody.
