“Cow is abode of all Gods”- Om Prakash
Mr Om Prakash is one of the strong votaries of cow saving projects and is promoter of cow urine and cow dung-based products. In an Interview with Uday India correspondent Sachin Kaushik he talked about the various implications and importance of cow dung and cow urine and why we need to save the cow. Excerpts:
What is the reason behind the cow slaughter in India, where cow is regarded as sacred by the majority of people and there are laws against it in some states?
The main reason for cow slaughter in India is not that there is lack of faith in people, but the financial. A large number of people can’t afford to keep the cow and it is very difficult to meet expenses out of cow milk as cow milk is less in demand and cheaper. So we suggest some other alternatives to cop up with the expenses. As our Vedas tell us that cow itself is an abode of all Gods—“gau vaste Lakshmi” which means Goddess Laksmi abodes in cow. In reality a cow is complete wealth, its waste is also an asset and not a waste to be thrown. Our emphasis is on this aspect that cow urine and cow dung should be projected as by-products and people should know where to use them and earn from them, so that at any point cow should not be assumed as a burden. Today, it has been scientifically proven that cow dung and cow urine can be used in different products as a base ingredient. Cow products can be beneficial for both the businessmen and farmers and as such they will infuse a feeling in farmers to save and protect the cow.
What are the benefits of cow urine and cow dung?
Cow urine is the best product among all the urines. In Ayurveda, whenever there is a mention of urine it is obviously understood as cow urine, which is supported by the ancient scriptures. Cow urine is beneficial in many ways. Cow urine is an excellent germicide and kills variety of germs. All diseases that are caused by germs are thereby destroyed by it. According to Ayurveda the cause of all the diseases are tri-doshas or the imbalance of three faults, i.e. mucous, bile and air. Cow urine has the power to cure diseases as it balances the tri-doshas. Cow urine has a direct effect on the functioning of liver. Liver purifies the blood and imparts disease-resistance power to the body. Some micronutrients are present in our body, which gives the strength for life. Micronutrients are flushed out through the urine. Lack of these nutrients causes ageing in our body. Cow urine can meet the deficiency of the nutrients in the body as it has all the micronutrients in it that are required for a healthy life. Thus cow urine can stop the aging process. So the life-giving cow urine is also called elixir.
Cow urine has many minerals especially copper, gold, salts, etc. This compensate for the mineral deficiency of the body. Gold salts are said to protect against many diseases. Nervous system is affected when mental tension occurs. Cow urine is also known as Medhya and hradya, which suggests that it provides strength to brain and heart. In this way cow urine protects heart and brain from damages that occurred due to mental tension and protects these organs from diseases and disorders. Excessive use of the medicines has some effects as it leaves residue in the body. This residue causes diseases. Cow urine destroys the toxic effects of these medicinal residues and makes the body disease free. Electric currents or rays are present in the environment, which keep our body healthy. These rays are present in the form of very small currents that enter the body through the element copper, which is present in the body. Copper is also present in the cow urine, which has the property of attracting the electric waves and thereby keeping our body healthy. When one acts sinfully the heart and mind become narrow minded. This also causes many diseases. Cow urine is the symbol of goodness. It directs our mind to work in the proper channel and thereby keeps the body disease free. In ancient scriptures it is said that some diseases occur due to sinful actions performed in previous lives, which create many diseases. It is said that the Ganga resides in cow urine. The Ganga destroys all the sins from human souls. Similarly, cow urine also removes previous sins and thus diseases are healed. Cow urine is a miraculous poison destroyer, which cures the disease caused by toxic substances. The dangerous chemicals are all purified by cow urine. Cow urine gives immunity power by increasing resistance power against diseases due to its anti-toxin activities. All diseases are caused by mandagni or low fire, i.e. low digestive capacity. When the fire is strong, diseases never occur. Cow urine keeps the fire strong.
Is there any scientific research going on to solidify the facts about cow urine and cow dung?
The lab in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad is one of the growing number of research centres which have embraced the sacred status of cows in India and sought to push it to a new level. Promoting the practical alongside the spiritual, they have developed a line of dung- and urine-based medicines which they say can cure a whole herd of ailments from bad breath to cancer. These formulas are not new. They are contained in ancient Hindu holy texts. We are just making them with a scientific approach. There is one institute we are coming up in Lucknow, for the management of the gaushalas, where we will teach the students the best management of cow products, from milk to cow urine and cow dung and their extensive uses. The raw materials are generated on site from more than 300 cows which roam the compound housing the centre. Visitors must remove shoes and socks before entering and brave a barefoot walk across a carpet of semi-soft dung drying in the sunlight. Walking on fresh cow dung is very healthy; it kills all the germs and bacteria and heals wounds. And dry cow dung is a great scrub to get rid of dead skin and improve blood circulation.
How can one benefit from cow urine and cow dung for business purpose?
The list of derivative applications is an extremely lengthy one, stretching beyond medicines to toiletries like soaps, shampoos and toothpaste, as well as incense sticks and mosquito coils. Cow dung has anti-radiation qualities, which can reflect back the harmful rays. This quality can be used in making tiles which can be used in making buildings and houses and also the oil-bounder distemper which can be put on walls to prevent extra heating of buildings. These products have been applauded by people all over the country. We unveiled its own urine-based soft drink last year as a “healthy” alternative to Coke and Pepsi. “Gau Jal or cow water” was developed at RSS Cow Protection Department, a research facility in the northern city of Haridwar on the banks of the holy river Ganga. This will end the market for carbonated fizzy drinks. Gau Jal is currently awaiting the government approval. We want to create awareness among the business groups for focussing on packaging, marketing, and preservation so as to prevent the drink from spoiling in India’s summer heat. Cows are sacred to India’s huge Hindu majority, precluding them from eating beef, and we also want that its waste should also fall into the same acceptable category as dairy products.
