Censoring Sarkari Media

Updated: December 17, 2011 2:32 pm

Too often and too glibly talk many UPA ministers about regulating the electronic media. They blame that the media is not doing its work well. Certain acts shown by the media are not good for society. However, it appears that programmes and news clippings filmed are not in the interest of the UPA government and therefore they want to take over the reins. It is said that they are already regulating the Doordarshan and Akashvani, sarkari media houses, so that they do not dare to air any news piece questioning the credibility of the government. Sources say that according to the instructions, AIR avoids giving publicity to the Opposition. Of late, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha was pursuing the AIR reporters to cover the news of the BJP. It is worth catching attention that one of the rallies in UP led by Rahul   was well telecast by DD for uninterrupted 40 minutes.

TN Turmoil

Price rise is a grave issue nudging the national attention. It’s the voice of the aam aadmi. But for the people of Tamil Nadu, it is simply a ‘Give and Take’ business. It goes without saying that in the previous assembly elections Jayalalithaa gave away many household appliances and jewellery pieces to the people. Now after she has come in power, at first she has increased the bus fare and hiked the price of many products, and milk shot all time high. A Congress leader commented that Jayalalithaa was taking all back what she gave once during the elections.

BJP’s Trump Card

The political clouds are hanging over the skies in Uttar Pradesh. Almost all the parties are busy making preparations and strategies ahead of the elections in the state. Beyond an iota of doubt, Uttar Pradesh is crucial a state for BJP where it once led the famous Ramjanmabhoomi movement and ever since Ayodhya became the chief issue for BJP and many aggressive political Hindu leaders emerged in the state. But, straight from the horse’s mouth, BJP is not only shunning the Ayodhya issue but also overlooking those leaders once part of it. In the first place, Advani did not have Ayodhya in his itinerary during his Jan Chetna Rath Yatra ended recently. Leaders like Vinay Katiyar and Yogi Adityanath had to take a back seat. Though, BJP has sent Uma Bharti to campaign in Uttar Pradesh but one as championing the cause of backward classes.

Promoting dynasty politics is not an alien term in the dictionary of Congress. As seen many a time that they too poke fun at it. It was seen in the meeting held lately with regard to the matter of election committee of Uttar Pradesh. State President Reeta Bahuguna Joshi suggested few names for different seats. She also narrated the social activities and achievements of the proposed candidate. But when she read the name of Shekhar Bahuguna who happens to be her brother she chose to stay mum and jumped to the next name. Intervening her counting, state-in-charge Digvijay Singh asked her in jest to mention the qualities of Shekhar Bahuguna first, utter silence was the reply.
