CBI raids premises of Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, on charges of aiding group of foreign nationals in getting visas illegally
In Chennai, the CBI sleuths are making searches in the premises of the Congress Lok Sabha member Mr Karti P Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P.Chidambaram.
The searches are also being carried out in several other locations including Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi.
Mr Karti has reacted to the raids saying he has lost count of the number of searches. His father and former Finance Minister P.Chidambaram has confirmed the searches by tweeting that this morning, a CBI team searched his residence at Chennai and his official residence at Delhi, by showing a FIR in which he is not named. He has said the search team did not find or seize anything.
AIR correspondent reports,Today’s raids are relating to a new case filed by the apex investigating agency against Mr Karti P.Chidambaram, reportedly on charges of aiding a large group of foreign nationals in getting visas illegally.
The case is considered an offshoot of the ongoing investigations against him in a series of other cases.
The ex-finance minister P. Chidambaram and his son who is an MP Mr Karti Chidambaram have been named in quite a few cases including the one involving the Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval for the INX Media and money laundering case that are being pursued by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate.
