CBI arrests 14 persons including six public servants on corruption charges regarding illegal registration of NGOs under FCRA
Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested 14 accused persons including six public servants on corruption charges for getting backdoor Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration to NGOs illegally.
The CBI conducted searches yesterday at the premises of accused at around 40 locations including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Manipur. During the searches, more than three crore rupees in cash, several incriminating documents and mobile phones were recovered.
The agency said, a case was registered in this regard against 36 persons including seven public servants of FCRA Division of Home Ministry and National Informatics Centre and middlemen along with representatives of various NGOs. Cases were registered on the allegation that certyain officials of FCRA Division in connivance with representatives of different NGOs and middlemen, were indulging in corrupt activities to receive donations despite not fulfilling the prescribed norms. It was further alleged that some public servants were impersonating themselves as officers posted in FCRA Division and were indulging in corrupt practices and taking bribe from NGOs for facilitating them for their registration and renewal under FCRA.
