BJP’s ‘Yuvraj’

Updated: January 1, 2011 11:52 am

Varun Gandhi had earned too much laurels within BJP cadres for his speeches, which are replete with Hindutva. He had also captured the attention of senior BJP leaders, when he attracted a huge gathering in his public meetings in UP. BJP has even started to see a future mass leader in him for UP. But now the party workers are disenchanted with his charisma, as they are feeling cheated by his alleged misbehaviour with the cadres. A party worker called him at late night, almost at 11 pm, and requested Varun Gandhi to help him, as he was being harassed by the police. But instead of helping him, Varun Gandhi turned the heat on him for calling at late night. He also called the police and asked to arrest him. Although, the police didn’t arrest the BJP worker, they warned him not to harass Varun Gandhi at late night. Now all the party workers are really scared to contact him. One party worker commented that since he is ‘Yuvraj’ of BJP, how can we poor workers dare to contact him?

Obedient (?) Cadre

BJP’s national president has announced on many occasions that he will support and trust the cadres only as BJP is a cadre-based party. But it is an irony that all of its cadres are not following the party’s protocol. One of its national executive members Bijay Mahapatra of Odisha is avoiding using party platform for his political activities. He often organises press conferences, not in the party office but in hotels. He raises his voice on many issues, not on party platform but constitutes an independent morcha or committee. He also avoids using party banner in his press conferences. His activities are now a subject of murmur among the other party workers. It is no secret that initially he was a powerful ally of the late Biju Patnaik. But after being ignored and even suppressed by Naveen Patnaik, he joined NCP. After losing election, he joined BJP and got a prominent place in Gadkari’s national team. State party workers have now started to question his ‘cadre loyalty’.

Sane Saina

It is a well-known fact that the organisers of Commonwealth Games had purchased treadmills for sportspersons at a price of more than Rs 9 lakh per piece. But our players are not in the favour of using these treadmills for the exercise purpose. It is true for at least one of the sports star, i.e. the world-renowned badminton player Saina Nehwal. While addressing a press conference at the inauguration programme of sustainable drive, she revealed that she never uses a treadmill, rather she prefer to go to a park for jogging. It also protects the bio-diversity as well as environment, she added. Are our sports committees and organisations listening?

It may be a simple human error but the Hindi division of Parliament has wrongly written the name of State Defence Minister MM Pallam Raju. It has added Shrimati, i.e. Mrs, to his name instead of Shri (Mr). However, English division has correctly added Mr to his name. When this error was brought to the attention of the minister, he said in a lighter vein that maybe the Hindi division wants to enhance his chance to be elected as MP. It is to be noted that women are likely to 33 per cent reservations in the House.
