BJP-led coalition government in Manipur wins trust vote

In Manipur, the BJP-led ruling coalition won the Confidence Motion in the Council of Ministers through voice vote in the one-day State Assembly session held yesterday. The motion was moved by State Chief Minister N. Biren Singh who is supported by MLAs from NPP, NPF, Lok Jana Shakti Party and others in the present government.

The strength of the 60-member Manipur Assembly has been reduced to 53 at present after the resignation of three MLAs and disqualification of four MLAs under the Anti-Defection Law. The BJP has 18 MLAs while the opposition party Congress has 24 MLAs. Moving the Confidence Motion, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that Union Government has released an amount of 306 crore rupees for development on Minor Irrigation Sector in Manipur. Under the project, satellite mapping will be used to identify availability of ground water and around 300 RCC dams will be built for water storage.
