Being A Vegetarian

These days’ people prefer to become vegetarian to stay healthy. There are many reasons for one to turn to vegetarianism. It may be for moral hazards because one may be more concerned about growing environmental reasons or it might be for health issues as there are many health benefits of being a vegetarian. So, before you become a veggie, know the benefits of its diet.


  • People who take plant-based protein diets have lower body mass index, lower blood cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure.
  • It is easier to digest plant-based protein. Especially food items like sprouts get easily digested and are equally energetic.
  • Among many other benefits, a vegetarian diet helps you to maintain proper weight. If you switch from non-vegetarian diet to vegetarian diet which is fat free, will help you lose weight considerably. Moreover, with low fat, low cholesterol and triglycerides, a vegetarian diet will help you keep your weight under check.
  • Vegetables are rich in fiber that is important to keep the bowel movement clean. You hardly find fiber in non-vegetarian diet. Vegetarian diet contains nutrition which is a source of amino acids that is necessary for healthy metabolism.
  • The most important fact is vegetarian diet is low in fat and sodium. This helps the blood pressure level to be at normal level. The fats in the vegetables are not harmful but they are essential for the body. They also keep the heart in good condition, thus vegetarians have a lower risk of developing heart diseases.
  • Animals sometimes like humans undergo an adrenaline rush that produces steroids and other stress hormones. This gets released into the blood stream. When consumed by human beings it forms harmful toxins that might harm the human body. Also sometimes these animals are injected with growth hormones. These too lead to the formation of many diseases upon human consumption. Hence it is always better to reduce the non-vegetarian diet.
  • Vegetarian diet is comparatively less expensive than the non-vegetarian food. Meat makes up a significant proportion of a typical household   food bill. A household can however replace meat with lentils and other low cost forms of nutritious and natural foods. By taking meat out from the equation a large amount can be saved.
  • Switching to vegetarian diet reduces the risk of kidney stones and gall bladder stones considerably. Non-vegetarian diet is undoubtedly rich in protein. Sometimes this excess amount of protein can cause the body to excrete more amounts of calcium, oxalate and uric acid. These substances form the main component of kidney stones and gall stones.

                One should understand that shifting to vegetarian food is not enough to lead a healthy life. A balanced diet plays an equally important role. It is not the restriction of meat that makes a vegetarian healthy. It is the variety of foods like. fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains to be included in your diet that keeps you healthy.       ■
