The news of a terrorist attack in Punjab has shaken the country. Terrorists attacked Sarhali police station of Tarn Taran with a rocket launcher on Friday midnight. The banned Khalistani terrorist organisation Sikh for Justice (SFJ) has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack on the police station. The rocket fired at around one o’clock in the night hit the iron gate of the police station and fell in the Sanjh center built in the police station. Due to this the glasses of the windows of the building were broken.

Here it is worth mentioning here that Central intelligence agencies are constantly sending alerts to the state government on deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. The central intelligence agency sent inputs to the state police on the increasing activities of Khalistan supporters in the state and instructed them to keep an eye on the leaders who are spreading radical ideology. Along with this, the central government also sought answers from the state government on the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. But it seems that all these alert messages fell on the deaf ears of the Punjab government, led by Bhagwant Mann, as the government did not send any response.

A similar terrorist attack took place in Punjab in August as well. Then the Mohali-based headquarters of the Intelligence Department of the Punjab Police was attacked by terrorists with a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG). Its wires were connected with Lakhbir Singh Landa, a terrorist sitting in Canada. Earlier in July, a terrorist was arrested in the same area with 2.5 kg RDX and IED.

It is noteworthy that the central government sought information from the state government about the situation arising out of the killing of the Hindu leader, the pro-Khalistan campaign, and the incidents of poster-bashing. Earlier, the Union Home Ministry had called for detailed information on the activities of gangsters in the state, movement of illegal weapons and incidents being carried out by criminals from jails through their henchmen. According to sources, earlier, central agencies had sent an alert to the then Channi government in the month of February this year regarding the activities of Khalistan supporters. In it, it was told that Khalistan supporters sitting abroad and some local leaders were secretly mobilising the youth in Punjab under the guise of religion.

Furthermore, the agencies disclosed the activities being carried out by the organisation ‘Waris Punjab De’ and also informed the state police about the background of its new head. Despite this, the state government and the police did not appear active anywhere and with the increase in the activities of gangsters in the state, a campaign was started in favour of Khalistan by the radical preacher Amritpal Singh. It came to the fore that he was supported by SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, sitting abroad, and terrorist elements hiding in Pakistan. Hindu-Sikh clash in Kali Mata temple area in Patiala, killing of Hindu leader in Amritsar raised questions on deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, but the state government appears to have turned a blind eye to all these activities.
