Another city of Uttarakhand in danger, cracks develop in houses
The horrific scene of cracks in Joshimath in Uttarakhand has not been forgotten and similar cases have been seen in another city. Big cracks have appeared in many houses in Karnprayag area of Chamoli district of the state. According to media reports, cracks have been found in 38 houses so far. The administration evacuated all the affected houses in a hurry.
Karnprayag Tehsildar Surendra Dev said, “38 families have been affected by this. After vacating the houses, all the affected families have been shifted to municipality night shelters and ITI college classes. The administration is closely monitoring the situation .”
At the same time, the Government of India has given its answer in the Lok Sabha regarding the land sinking in Joshimath. The central government said that before the land sinking in Joshimath, there were incidents of avalanches and floods in Tapovan. Due to this, the work of the power project had to be stopped. The Modi government said that there is no hydropower project in and around Joshimath. This information was given by Power and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh in a written reply to a question by AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi in the Lok Sabha.
The Modi government minister RK Singh said, “The Tapovan Vishnugad hydropower project is unaffected by the land sinking incident in Joshimath area. Nevertheless, the district administration issued an order on January 5, 2023 to suspend the construction activities at the project site till further orders.” He said that the Tapovan power project is far away from Joshimath and the Tapovan power project has not been affected by the land sinking in Joshimath. Still, as a precautionary measure, the district administration has banned any kind of construction in Joshimath. The government admitted that work had to be stopped due to floods and landslides in two power projects of Uttarakhand–Phata and Tapovan.
Here it is worth mentioning here that Joshimath-like cracks are also being seen in some areas of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, which is called the crown of the country and the heaven of the earth. 19 families were shifted to safer places after cracks appeared in their houses in Nai Basti village of Doda district.
