40 lakh people affected due to flood in Bihar

In Bihar, the flood situation has worsened following incessant rains in the catchment areas of Gandak, Bagmati, Kamla Balan and their tributaries.Surging water is engulfing fresh areas of flood affected districts.

With two more districts of Siwan and Madhubani now 14 districts have come under the impact of floods. 40 lakh people of these districts  spread over 972 panchayats  are reeling under the impact of flood. The worst-affected district is Darbhanga where about 14 lakh people are facing hardship of flood fury. The other affected districts are Gopalganj, Saran, Samastipur, West Champaran and Sitamarhi. Water Resources Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha said that the districts concerned have been asked to remain .

Bagmati,Burhi Gandak and Adhwara group of rivers are turbulent and flowing above danger levels at several places.Engineers have been instructed to keep a strict vigil on water level in rivers and the embankment. The Met department predicts heavy rainfall in north Bihar.
