Nitin Gadkari inagurates  PPRC online course on governance

Union Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari on Saturday  inaugurated a certificate e-course “Understanding Good Governance” jointly organized by Policy Research Centre and Ram Bhau Mhalgi. The course will be an intensive study circle, packed into interactive sessions spanning over 5 days. Gadkari lauded the effort of Public Policy Research Centre and said that Public Policy Research Centre and Ram Bhau Mhalgi’s initiative will help students discover the annals of good governance from those who have been instrumental in executing the policies and implementing change. He further added that one of the fundamental characteristics of good governance is an empowered and informed citizenry and the initiative only emboldens the philosophy by providing a platform for healthy debate and discussion on government’s performance over the last six years.

Nitin Gadkari further highlighted the fact that Modi 2.0 has been a year of landmark decisions, bold initiatives and political grit. The government helped India unshackle from historical wrongs and set on progressive path. The philosophy of sabkasaath vikas aur sabka vishwas formed the foundation of every decision taken. He further added that even past few months, India has been battling COVID with a string hand.

Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Director Public Policy Research Centre, who was also present at the inaugural e-session, said that the course has been designed by keeping in mind all the key features of governance that have well been identified by the people and has had an identifiable impact on the lives of the common people. Dr. Vinay encouraged the participants to ask questions and participate with complete vigor and gain as much possible from the experience of all the experts who would be conducting sessions.

Dr. Sumeet Bhasin, Director Public Policy Research Centre, while addressing the virtual class, said that all the guest lecturers have been called upon to enable a practical learning experience for the students. It has been ensured that the students have an immersive experience as all the lecturers will bring along with themselves knowledge from the ground and experience of dealing with real life challenges. He said that ability to navigate successfully through challenges is crucial for good governance and the course will lay a special emphasis on that.

The online certificate course commenced today commemorates the completion of one year of Modi government. The course has been titled- certificate course on ‘Understanding Good Governance’ with broadly three objectives- Increasing governance literacy, performance-based analysis and art of implementation, broadening public participation. It is well laid out Clinical course with high dignitaries as speakers and has nothing to do with party and politics. The course is open to all, academics as well as journalist, as the basic purpose of the course is to enhance the knowledge base about Good Governance imparted by the initiators themselves.

The course was set in motion with the session titled  ‘Good Governance- Historical Perspective and its evolution’ addressed by Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, National In-Charge of twin departments of Policy Research and Good Governance. He thoroughly explained the important features of Good Governance in the present day context with relatable instances. Visionary leadership, comprehensive thought and design, effective outreach and people’s participation, transparency, accountability and monitoring are some of the value additions during the last six years. He also highlighted an additional ‘to do’ list consisting of citizens training, revising role of elected representatives at every level along with understanding the concept of Minimum Governance and Maximum Government.
