Is Goebbelsian propaganda emerging as a bigger threat to India?

It is always assumed that only terrorism is the biggest concern for India. But now there are few unprecedented challenges that are emerging as a catalyst to human annihilation: This is fake narrative or propaganda, which is being used as a machinery to destabilize India. If one looks carefully, there are two types of fake narratives being used, i.e. social propaganda and political propaganda. Social propaganda is being used for creating a rift in society, while political propaganda is being propagated to weaken the governance and the country. India has been facing these two types of challenges for many years and the partition of India in 1947 is the best example. However, one can witness an increase in this in recent years.

Caste-based discrimination is a truth in India. This happens in the Hindu society, the Muslim society and the Christian society also. There are sectarian conflicts in Muslim society. However, if any dispute happens in this community, they are not branded as Shia, Sunni or Ahmadiyya. On the other hand, if any clash happens in the Hindu community, the propagandists leave no stone unturned to brand it as anti-Dalit. However, this is also a truth that caste discrimination in Hindu community is decreasing rapidly due to awareness coming from increased education. Yet the Hindu community is an easy target in this regard. Perhaps, this is the reason why the Delhi rioter Shahrukh was called Anurag Mishra– A upper-caste Hindu. This is worth mentioning that Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad, who has very little influence in the Dalit community, could easily be seen at CAA protests at Jama Masjid despite knowing that oppressed Dalit communities of minorities in Pakistan are the biggest beneficiary of CAA.

Now coming to political propaganda. After 2014, Narendra Modi got a huge mandate in 2019 general elections also. After coming to power, second time, he abrogated Article 370, amended triple talaq (Most heinous law against Muslim women)  and passed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)-   Any person belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian community from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan, who entered India on or before the 31st of December, 2014, due to religious persecution shall not be treated as an illegal migrant for the purposes of this Act. Most importantly, this will not be applicable to Muslims from these countries. The fact of the matter is that these all amendments were never against Indian Muslims. But a pre-planned fake narrative has been created that all the works of Narendra Modi-led NDA government are anti-Muslim. However, it is worth mentioning that this is the Modi government that has provided the world’s largest scholarships to the Muslim community. The government is working on skill development so that youths of this community could earn their livelihood. Recently, this government has increased the number of Haj quotas. Therefore, how logical is it to call this government anti-Muslim? Through this political propaganda, the Muslim community was misguided by some people on CAA and it was said that this government would oust Muslims from this country, which is clearly false, and eventually, it turned into a riot in North East Delhi. Unfortunately, stones were pelted on Police, who were there to prevent violent protest. Delhi Police Head Constable Ratan Lal was shot dead and Intelligence Bureau staff Ankit Sharma was brutally stabbed allegedly 400 times.

Here the first point that comes in the mind is: These all things are being done to give A bad name to India in the garb of atrocities on the Muslim community. Few Muslim countries such as Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and Malaysia, which are considered to be hell regarding human rights and fight the sectarian war with each other, are trying to come together on this issue. Who does not know how Shia and Ahmadiyyas are treated in Pakistan. Who does not know Iran is fighting Sunni radical Islamists in Iraq and Syria. So it is evident that huge propaganda machinery is being used in the name of Indian Muslims to unite some Muslim countries. Not only this, the intention of this propaganda is to turn India into a war zone, which will stop India’s economic development and it is the real purpose of this fake narrative. In recent years, we have seen how the issue of climate change is raised and India is targeted the most. Though, it is most vital to mention that India is leading the world in renewable energy, the data suggest that carbon imitation in India is less than those of China and the US. China is the largest emitter of carbon dioxide gas in the world with 9.8 billion metric tonnes in 2017. The US is the second-largest emitter of CO2, with approximately 5.3 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in 2017. India is the third-largest emitter of CO2 in the world; it produced about 2.5 billion metric tonnes of CO2 in 2017. Now the question is: If developed nations are so concerned about climate change, why do they not provide funds and modern technology to developing nations? The point is that this narrative on climate change has always been brought before India to create hindrance in industrialisation in India.

Therefore, the biggest challenge before India is to tackle fake narrative which is not only trying to weaken India socially and politically, but also economically.
