Those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it

Updated: August 26, 2016 3:36 pm

It is most shocking to see that Indian politicians just refuse to learn anything from their past mistakes and keep on repeating it, like a joker.  Politicians are the bedrock of democracy but see what is happening in India.  Politicians keep committing the same old mistakes refusing to learn any lesson from history. They very conveniently forget that, “those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it. ”

Pakistan since last more than  six  decades has been waging a proxy war against India directly aided, abetted and sponsored by Pakistan but still like a fool almost all political parties keep endorsing former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s policy of “you can change your friend but not your neighbour. ” Pakistan has been bleeding India since more than 60 years but Indian politicians shamelessly refuse to learn any lesson.  This alone explains why India is among the worst affected terror country in the world.

Pakistan has consistently been sending terrorists fully armed to the teeth and after giving them the best possible rigorous training to spread maximum mayhem, destruction and havoc in India yet our politicians always like shameless creatures keep advocating talks and dialogues with not just rogue countries like Pakistan but also with terror groups.  Politicians just refuse to learn any lesson from repeated terror attacks even after Kargil war, attack on Parliament, Red Fort, blowing off entirely train in Mumbai etc all masterminded from Pakistan and keep chanting like an insane person that, “Vajpayee said that you can change your friends but not your neighbours”. This is what I find most ridiculous and term it as nothing but “theatre of the absurd”.

What did India under Vajpayee gain by extending hand of peace and friendship to Pakistan when Nawaz Sharif was PM? Kargil war in which we lost so many of our brave soldiers.  What did India under Vajpayee gain by extending hand of peace and friendship to Pakistani invader Gen. Pervez Musharraf who himself says proudly that he had entered 14-15 km inside Indian territory just before Kargil war begin to boost his soldiers morale to most brutally massacre Indian soldiers? Repeated terror attacks including the one on Red Fort, Parliament, Akshardham, Mumbai train attack in which more than 200 people were killed when the train was blown off.  What did India under Vajpayee get by declaring ceasefire not just with Pakistan but with dreaded terror groups like Hizbul Mujahideen? We are still reaping the harvest and the unabated violence sponsored by that same terror group Hizbul Mujahideen has Kashmir in flames since nearly a month ever since the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani whom Pakistan has hailed as “shaheed” and published his photo in trains and all public places.

Still all our politicians barring few exceptions proudly quote Vajpayee to say that, “you can change friends but not neighbours”.  Time and again Pakistan sponsored terrorists are killing innocents in India yet our politicians keep parroting what Vajpayee had said. This is most atrocious and reminds me of the famous dictum that, “Those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it. ”

After every major terror attack we witness the same stereotype reaction from our politicians that, “Pakistan hamare sabar kah imtihaan na le.  Is hamle ka muh tod jawab diya jayega.  Ab aur bardash nahi kaar sakte. ” After some time everything is forgotten as happened after Kargil war when just after 2 to 3 months India under Vajpayee gave a grand reception to Pakistani invader Gen. Pervez Musharraf  like a royal emperor and he as usual mocked at us and threatened of many more terror attacks.  We saw maximum terror attacks in his tenure on India yet Indian politicians and journalists shamelessly kept inviting him and honouring him and he still mocked at India and hailed terrorists as “freedom fighters”.  Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee who is now President was a rare politician who criticized Gen Musharraf for hailing terrorists rest all others followed Vajpayee in hailing Gen Musharraf.

After the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai in 2008, India caught dreaded terrorist Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab alive who spilled all beans about role of Pakistan, its army, ISI and terror groups in carrying out the ghastly terror group yet for Indian politicians relations with Pakistan were more important as according to former PM Vajpayee “you can change friends but not neighbours.” In 1993 also Mumbai was rocked by so many terror attacks and bomb blasts that nearly 300-400 people were killed and nearly thousand people injured yet all our politicians barring one or two exceptions strongly endorsed Vajpayee’s line “you can change your friends but not your neighbours”.

Even after repeated terror attacks sponsored by Pakistan-based terror groups, majority of politicians very strongly endorsed Vajpayee’s line.  After the ghastly terror attack on Pathankot our PM Narendra Modi went one step ahead and invited agents of ISI who are notorious for masterminding terror attacks on India and sending terrorists to India to inspect the site where terrorist had carried out dastardly terror attack in which many had lost their lives but when India requested NIA team to visit Pakistan to grill the suspects Pakistan flatly refused. This is the real difference between India and Pakistan.

What a coincidence that Pakistan since 1989 started waging proxy war on a large scale in Kashmir and that very year India extended Pakistan the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status and Pakistan after nearly 20 years is yet to extend India the MFN status. Indian journalists and politicians go out of the way to honour Pakistani invaders like Gen. Musharraf, yet Pakistan does not allow our Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s speech to be aired in public and not just this, stops Indian journalists from doing any coverage of the SAARC event held in Pakistan recently in which Rajnath Singh had gone to  participate. As if this is not enough, senior ministers of Pakistan leave after inviting Rajnath for lunch who is then himself compelled to leave hungry for India.

Most recently, Bahadur Ali a Pakistani trained terrorist is caught again yet Indian politicians shamelessly overlook everything and never raise the issue of declaring Pakistan a “terror sponsoring state” and boycott it at all forum and nuke all relations with it till it stops all terror activity and deports terror leaders like Hafiz Saeed and Syed Salaluddin to India. How much more time will India give to Pakistan? Arnab Goswami rightly blames Indian politicians in his news channel Times Now for encouraging terrorists and holding talks and dialogues with them knowing fully well that they don’t believe in Indian Constitution and our laws. He rightly questions Indian politicians giving undue importance to separatist groups like Hurriyat who never contest even a panchayat election and who question the very identity of India. Politicians as usual keep chanting “Vajpayee, Vajpayee, Vajpayee”.

One too would have chanted “Vajpayee, Vajpayee, Vajpayee” if Kargil war had not happened, attack on Red Fort, Parliament had not happened, blast in trains, attack on Akshardham temple and other places had not happened, Indian aeroplane was not hijacked in his rule due to which India was compelled to release three most dreaded terror leaders including Maulana Masood Azhar who founded dreaded terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad which was responsible for carrying out attack on Parliament and which is directly responsible for killing more than 10,000 people in India since 1999 after he was released along with other terrorists. PM Narendra Modi too has vowed to follow Vajpayee and invited ISI agents to India even though Pakistan denied NIA even an entry to Pakistan. For more than 30 days Kashmir is witnessing huge protests sponsored by terror groups based in Pakistan and our security forces are being attacked time and again yet PM Modi is emulating what Vajpayee did “Do nothing and just keep appealing for calm”.

While most of the leaders in Parliament have criticised Pakistan for fomenting terrorists and unrest in Kashmir in India very few had the guts to question why the people of Kashmir were raising pro-Pakistani slogans and waving flags of Pakistan and dreaded terror groups like IS. Again Vajpayee is invoked as if Vajpayee is the solution for everything. Had that been the case he would have been elected to power again and would not have suffered defeat in the elections in 2004!

Which self-respecting nation will tolerate repeated terror attack on its soil? Which self-respecting nation will invite terrorists and rogue nations like Pakistan for “talks and dialogues and declare repeated ceasefire with them”? Which self-respecting nation will keep trusting hostile nation like Pakistan which has repeatedly been sending terrorists to kill as many people as possible in India sparing not even women or children?

India is doing this repeatedly and everytime is invoking just one name “Vajpayee”. Rajnath Singh too criticizes Pakistan saying “yeh padosi hain ki manta hi nahin” but he too again invokes Vajpayee. Our soldiers will continue dying for the nation and our politicians will keep invoking “Vajpayee, Vajpayee, Vajpayee”.

This is just not done.  I have no problem with leaders hailing Vajpayee but certainly where he erred if we keep repeating the same old wrong and mistakes which he did, it is not just wrong but it is a crime for which there can be no justification. Our leaders must always remember that, “those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it”. Yet our leaders refuse to learn. Pathetic!
