Bollywood comes out in aid of Kalpana
Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi is fighting a kidney ailment with a little help from the film fraternity. A month after the government of Assam announced financial aid for the 61-year-old director, a leading magazine reports that Aamir Khan and Rohit Shetty are helping out with Ms Lajmi’s medical expenses. Aamir, who is currently filming Dangal in Punjab, is footing the bill for the next few months. “Till the last day of my life, I will have to undergo dialysis three times a week and it doesn’t come cheap. But thanks to the generous Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran (Rao), my dialysis bills have been covered for the next six months,” Ms Lajmi told a magazine. Dilwale director Rohit Shetty has also contributed Rs 2 lakh. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who has been helping raise funds for Ms Lajmi, tweeted a thank you note to Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Rohit Shetty. Kalpana Lajmi, who directed Dimple Kapadia in Rudaali and Raveena Tandon in Daman, was diagnosed with a malignant tumour on her kidney and will require long-term medical care.
