Builders of India

Updated: October 8, 2015 6:15 am

In 2008 the Postal Department issued a series of stamps to honour Builders of Modern India. Apart from Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar, only three others were considered for the honour–Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Now the present government has proposed to issue a new series to honour Makers of India. The proposal includes stamping out Rajiv and Indira. The other three including Pandit Nehru will figure in the new series.

Sonia Gandhi is said to be livid. She has asked party workers to spread out and tell people of the slight to the Family. The point is, are the people bothered? Secondly, what is the contribution of the two in building Modern India? It is Indira who imposed Emergency. Among the Family, it is Nehru who did the maximum, more than anyone else in fact—so far—and deserves the stamp, which carries his picture.

Yes, the NDA should not be partisan and include the RSS bosses and BJP second-stringer.
