For the past few years, tourism has been picking up, with the number of foreign tourist arrivals increasing every year. Last year J&K witnessed record number of tourist arrivals.

However, the state especially Kashmir region is still unexplored for about 99 per cent of the travelers from india. With the increase in the dollar prices, travelling across Europe and Middle East has become very expensive.

Zahoor Peerzada Deputy Director Tourism Kashmir told Uday India that we suggest travelers to shift their tour itineraries to a much cheaper destination—Kashmir and see how God has adorned this valley with unparalleled natural beauty. Kashmir is as good as Europe and many local investors have come up with luxurious properties like Khyber Hotels and Resorts , RK Sarovar Portico, Vivanta by Taj and The Lalit-Grand Palace to welcome you with their best services.

For skiers, Gulmarg has no match. The tourism department has also introduced heli-skiing at Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Gulmarg.

Adventure lovers can visit Kashmir and Ladakh for high altitude treks,white-water rafting, kayaking and canoeing, paragliding while many inquisitive vistors will find history engraved at every pilgrim site in this state.

As also, the tourism department is developing and promoting new tourist desinations, which are equally beautiful. New tourist places including Bangus, Lolab valley and Gurez valley have been thrown open for vistors last year.
