Updated: May 29, 2015 11:39 pm

Normally, life doesn’t turn out the way we expect and we wonder why. We blame others, our circumstances, fate and thus we suffer on. We make excuses. We opt out. We even turn a blind eye to the things that create our own discontentment. Very often the answers to our own happiness lie within ourselves.

So, why not our own friend and start asking ourselves what is really happening in our life? We might be surprised at what we discover. We may even enjoy the fruits of our efforts. We all love surprises. So, to discover new insights about yourself, simply be your own friend. Avoid becoming your own enemy. Ultimately you will become a friend to everyone else!

DO YOU FEEL WORTHWHILE?

  • Ask Yourself

How do you define yourself? How do you feel about yourself? How do you think about yourself? Are you aware of your own shortcomings? Are you happy with your own circumstances? Do you like yourself? Do you ever listen to the flow of your own feelings? Are you a constant critic of others? Do you like what you hear? Would you like to understand more about why you are not happy in yourself? Do your feelings create a sense of emptiness, apathy, boredom, despair akin to nonbeing? Would you like to make life easier for yourself? Do your feelings drain you?

  • Be your own friend

Why do you repress your feelings? Are you your own worst enemy? Would you like to become more assertive, be able to cope better and become more confident? Do you feel stuck in a rut? Do you feel you are living on the edge? Would you like to know more about your feelings? Can you articulate what is going on? Do you find yourself hiding from others and ultimately from yourself? Do you spend too much time thinking about yourself? Do you identify emotional signals in yourself? Do you try to hide the truth from yourself?

What language do you use to express your feelings?

  • Listen to your inner voice

Do you ever touch base with yourself? How much do you care about yourself and your feelings? How much do you care about others and their feelings? In what ways are you good to yourself? In what ways are you good to others? What are you strengths? What are your weaknesses? What makes you feel good or bad? How do you show kindness to yourself? How do you show kindness to others?

  • How to be your own friend

Wake up to yourself! Give yourself a chance to get to know the real you. Maybe it’s time to take time out and get to know who you really are. Perhaps find somebody who will give you some honest feedback. Listen honestly at his/her deliberations about you. Difficult? Well then, try the professional route to describe yourself in feelings terms. You might not like what you hear, but at least you are on the road to a better and a new you. Take note of the times and circumstances that create changes in your feelings such as: relationships, conflict, problems etc. Listen to your own inner voice and the responses you get from other people. Try to look at the messages your feelings are sending you. Define clearly what it is you don’t like about yourself and what it is you want to change.

  • Make decisions

Make a decision to change those parts of you that in the way of making your life manageable. Remember feelings are your inner speech so learn to be accurate about the message they’re sending! Monitor your thoughts, feelings, behavior and your ability to cope, relate and communicate. Don’t be afraid of them. Make them your friends. If you want to move forward, do it now. Remember life is not a dress rehearsal. Create your own production in your own time, in your own environment, with your own energy. Learn to feel good now, not just later?

The voyage of life’s journey is beautiful, full of joy and ecstasy.
