The BJP and Narendra Modi, if they think out of box, will realise that Sushma Swaraj is the best bet to win the Delhi Assembly election. She knows Delhi, revels when given an independent charge and can be a good administrator. She can defeat Arvind Kejriwal with ease. She is being wasted as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Modi can afford to rise above petty party politics and shock Kejriwal by naming Sushma Swaraj as the BJP candidate. At present, it is clear that Kejriwal would be no walkover. AAP has gained a lot in the last two months, due to intense campaigning and Jan Sabhas, Kejriwal has been spearheading. He has been questioning Modi on his poll promises. He is calling Modi’s government ‘only hype and no achievements’ government.
Modi will have to pay a heavy political cost if the BJP loses to AAP. Sources said both he and Amit Shah are worried at the lack of spirit and organisational skill in the local party leaders. This became apparent at the first election rally of Modi. The turnout was extremely disappointing. It transpired that most members of the state unit did nothing to get people to the rally.
