Yamaha Domestic Sales Up 24%

Yamaha Motor India today reported 24% increase in domestic two-wheeler sales at 53,242 units in August. It had sold 42,995 units in the same month last year. Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd Vice President (Sales & Marketing) Roy Kurian said: “This month has seen only an extension of our continued success month after month. Our scooter offerings, especially ‘Alpha’ have been a catalyst in giving us good numbers in addition to our popular motorcycle lineup.” FZ Version 2.0 and FZ-S Version 2.0 has spurred Yamaha’s sales, he added.



BHEL Bags Rs 3,500 Crore Order

State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged an order worth over Rs 3,500 crore for setting up a thermal power project in Gujarat. The contract has been awarded by the Gujarat State Electricity Corp Ltd. BHEL said the Rs 3,536 crore order is to set up an 800 MW super critical thermal plant at Wanakbori in Kheda district. “This is the first ever project of 800 MW unit rating ordered in the country on EPC basis and is also the highest valued order placed by GSECL,” it said. The work includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of the unit.



Larsen & Toubro Bags Contract In Oman

Larsen & Toubro’s overseas subsidiary L&T Oman LLC has bagged a contract from the Sultanate of Oman for construction of the Adam Airbase in Al Dakhiliya Governorate. “The buildings and factories business of L&T Oman LLC, a subsidiary of L&T, has won an order from the Ministry of Defence, Sultanate of Oman for construction of the Adam Airbase in Al Dakhiliya Governorate,” a release issued here said. The company, however, did not disclose the value of the contract.



BOF Hot Trials Commence At Sail’s Burnpur Plant

On a visit to ISP Burnpur, Chairman SAIL Mr C.S. Verma witnessed the start up of the First Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) on September 14, 2014. This event marks the commencement of modern steel making in IISCO Steel Plant (ISP). Under the expansion program of ISP, many major facilities viz. the 7m tall Coke Oven Battery, 2×204 sqm Sinter Plant, Power and Blowing Station and 0.5 Mtpa Wire Rod Mill have already commenced operations on standalone basis. Chairman, SAIL Mr. C.S. Verma applauded the ISP collective for the start – up and urged them to speed up the remaining work for integrated operations besides ramping up production from already operational units to meet the growing steel demand.



NMDC To Increase Iron Ore Output By 10%

State-owned NMDC is set to increase iron ore production by at least 10 per cent to 32-33 million tonnes (mt) this financial year. During 2013-14, its production stood at 30, the highest so far. The company would increase production at its two mines in Karnataka, Donimalai and Kumar-aswamy, to at least 10.5 mt this financial year. In 2013-14, NMDC produced nine mt in Karnataka. The company, was constantly exploring new mines in several states, including Karnataka, with its own resources. NMDC has increased its stake in Australian company Legacy Iron ore to 78 per cent. In 2011, it had acquired 48.8 per cent in that company, its first foreign acquisition.



Maruti Suzuki India Appoints R S Kalsi As Head Of Domestic Marketing And Sales

Country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India appointed R S Kalsi as head of domestic marketing and sales following the resignation of Mayank Pareek from the company. Kalsi, who is currently Executive Director heading the parts, accessories and outbound logistics divisions of the company, will report to the Managing Director Kenichi Ayukawa, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, will continue to head international marketing for the company, it added. Kalsi, a mechanical engineer from the Delhi College of Engineering, joined MSI in 1984. He served in various roles, including vendor development, supply chain, parts inspection and engineering, before being asked to spearhead the company’s foray into new businesses like Maruti True Value, Maruti Insurance, Maruti Driving Schools and Maruti Finance in 2002.



ONGC Invested Rs 81,890 Crore For Raising Output

India’s largest oil and gas producer ONGC said it has invested Rs 81,890 crore in bringing on stream newer discoveries and arrest natural decline that has set in its ageing fields. “Our major oil and gas producing fields are ageing and showing natural decline,” ONGC Chairman and Managing Director Dinesh K Sarraf told shareholders at company’s annual general meeting (AGM). However, ONGC has taken measures to arrest this trend and uphold production from such fields, he said. Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has deployed the best-in-class technologies in its Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) schemes on these fields.

Tata Steel To Pay Rs 193.34 Crore As Bonus

Private steel major Tata Steel will pay Rs 193.34 crore to its 30,269 eligible employees on account of annual bonus for the year 2013-14, with the maximum bonus being Rs 1,56,758. A Memorandum of Settlement was signed between company management and Tata Workers’ Union for annual bonus, the company said in a statement. The minimum and maximum annual bonus would be Rs 20,498 and Rs 1,56,758 respectively, it said. Since majority of the employees are drawing salary/wages higher than the limit laid down in the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965, they are not eligible for bonus under the Act.
