A Tale Of Two National Leaders And Their Daughters
What is common in former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda? Except that are politicians, there cannot be anything much similar. Both belong to different parties and hail from different regions. While Advani is from North, or North-West (Karachi) to be precise, Gowda is from South.
Yet still, there is something common between not only between these two leaders but also their daughters.
While Advani has acknowledged in his book “My Country My Life” that the main and major source of inspiration for him to write the now celebrated & much sought-after book was his daughter Pratibha, Gowda has revealed that he too has started writing a book on his political career spanning for over five decades and his daughter, Shailaja is the main reason for him to venture into this exercise.
Advani travelled to the picturesque places of Nainital and Dehradun in the Himalayas to write the book, who was ably assisted by Pratibha. Gowda, in his conversation with this correspondent, said his daughter Shailaja has been able to collect and formatted the photographs for over four decades.
“I have told her about my exp eriences right from day one and she has typed the matter but I am not finding time to vet what she has written and continue with the writing,” the former Prime Minister said and added, “I think, I will get some time after the May 5 elections and after which I would like to go to some isolated place to finish the book.”
But a 24X7 politician, who finds it difficult to stay put in one place for more than a day, manage to cut himself off from the humdrum of politics for a long time? “I don’t know but I must do it somehow. Shailaja is my great strength. She has been insisting me to put all my experience in writing for the sake of future generations,” Gowda said. This is what exactly Advani had proudly said about Pratibha.
It is not still not clear about the title of Gowda’s proposed book.”I have one or two ideas in my mind, which I have shared with Shailaja but she is not convinced about it. She must be having something else in her mind,” the former Prime Minister said.
Advani has been diplomatically straight and honest in bringing out his experiences which spans for over six-and-a-half decades. People and workers alike describe “My Country My Life” as modern Bhagavad Geetha and LK as modern Krishna. What about Gowda’s proposed book? “I do not want to hurt anybody but I will put facts and events, as it happened. Let the people judge me,” he said and added, “I am not writing the book for the sake of publicity. That is why I am getting the book released after the elections. It may take about two months.”
