Updated: December 1, 2012 12:29 pm

Your body cleansing diet could just be a make up to weight loss plan that fails to meet your daily caloric and nutritional requirements. Doctors say most of these diets last seven to 28 days, and need to be undertaken with caution since they are usually extreme and cause acute reaction in the body. If a person is only on liquid diet for seven days without supervision, it can lead to severe gas and acidity, low blood pressure, vitamin deficiency, and muscle aches. Basically one is starving the body of its required nutrients. It might work for maximum a week before one starts feeling tired and weak. It is always better to undertake these cleansing diets in a facility where a doctor supervises. But on daily basis it is not advisable, when you are dealing with family work and stress. It can do serious harm to your body since you tend to forget even liquid intake.

Mostly celebrities go for detox diet for rapid weight loss which is drastically unhealthy. Most of those who undertake these diets are addicted to the weight loss they see in the initial stage. But the rapid weight loss weakens the body and reduces the stamina drastically. According to Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, detoxification is nothing but resting, cleaning and nourishing the body from inside out.

A GOOD DETOX DIET IS NOT STARVING ONESELF BUT EATING THOSE THINGS THAT CLEANSE THE BODY FILTERS

■              An ideal detox diet should include whole, minimum processed foods with fruits, vegetables and adequate antioxidants.

■              This should provide your body its required energy, protein, minerals, vitamins while cleaning up the system.

■              Your diet should include boiled vegetables, raw fruits and portion of wholesome grains.

■              High fibre forming foods help bind ingested toxins. Light fruit juice such as lemon, watermelon, vegetable juice etc. will be excellent.

■              Eat only when you feel hungry and maintain regular timings giving the digestive system enough time to digest the food that is already taken. At least four hour gap should be given between the food intake.

■              Eliminate those items which act as toxins in the body and hinder the healing process, such as alcohol, coffee, cigarettes, refined sugars, saturated fats etc.

■              For personnel hygiene use natural alternatives instead of chemical-based cleaners such as shampoos, deodorants, tooth paste etc.

■              Yoga and meditation are the simple ways to relieve stress.

■              A good amount of fiber, brown rice, organically grown fresh fruits and vegetables are the best detoxifying foods.

■              Drink plenty of liquids like water and juices which help remove toxins from the body.

■              Avoid eating out oily, fatty foods and eat home-cooked food.

■              There are some exercises specifically for detoxification and gain many health benefits which can be done under supervision.

■              Special brushes are available in natural product stores. Dry brush the skin to remove toxins from the pores.

So follow the above given method of detoxification and avoid different health problems that are associated with the fad diet detox plan. The human body has a tendency to move towards health naturally as it cleanses itself by shedding accumulated toxins and repairing damaged cells.
