Benefits Of Baking Soda

Our kitchen is a mini pharmacy. Each and every item taking from common salt to tamarind is a remedy for every ailment. We only need to know how to utilise them. Some amongst them have many uses apart from health. Today let us know some benefits of baking soda.

Baking soda is usually used in recipes that expand under oven temperatures causing baked goods to rise. It is the result of chemical reaction that produces bubbles of carbon dioxide when baking soda is combined with moisture and an acidic ingredient. The outcome is a tasty product with a pleasing texture.

LET US KNOW ITS USES

Get rid of bad odour: During summers we sweat a lot and some times bad body odour emanates. After taking bathe we usually apply talcum powder to get rid of this odour. Next time you apply little baking soda underneath your arms. You will see the bad odour vanish from you. If you add spoon full of soda to a glass of water and rinse your mouth, you will notice freshness and bad odour vanish from your mouth too.

Bath soak: Put about 100g of baking soda in a bucket full of water and then take bath. This relieves you from perspiration and body odour.

Softens the skin: Make paste by adding little water to the soda and apply to your face and hands. Rub in a circular motion to exfoliate the skin and wash off. This will give glow to your skin.

Care your dentures: Make a solution by adding little soda to warm water and soak your dentures in them. This keeps them odour free and fresh. You can even clean them by using brush and baking soda.

Shine your teeth: Just dip the brush with paste in baking soda and then brush your teeth. This makes your teeth shine and gives a fresh feeling.

Acts as antacid: If you are suffering from acidity due to indigestion or gastric problem you reach for an antacid. Instead you can put a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink. This will relieve you from acidity.

Insect bite: Add little water to the baking soda and make a paste to apply on the insect bite. This gives relief from the itching sensation. You can even sprinkle dry soda on the bite and rub it to get a faster relief.

 

Softens your hands: Instead of soaps and cleansers make paste of baking soda and water. Apply on hands gently rub them to get rid of dirt and odour and make your hands soft.

For clean hair: Add little baking soda to your shampoo and then shampoo your hair. This removes dirt, makes your hair clean and shiny.

 

Clean your hair brush and comb: Add little baking soda to warm water and soak your hair brush and comb in it. This helps remove the oil and hair product residue from your brush. Rinse in clean water and pat dry.

Sooths feet: After a tiresome day soak your feet in warm water by adding little baking soda. This removes the dirt from your feet and makes them soft.

 

Microwave: Clean your microwave by sprinkling little baking soda on a cloth. This makes your microwave sparkle as well as odour free.

 

Silverware: Clean your silverware with baking soda and wipe with a clean cloth. Your silverware will shine with a sparkle. You can clean floor to remove the dirt and this makes your floor sparkle.

You can deodorize your fridge, cutting board, trash can, dishwasher, garbage disposals lunch boxes etc. by sprinkling baking soda. So baking soda while enhancing the taste of your favourite dish also takes care to keep clean your body as well as your house. Such is the uniqueness of pure sodium bicarbonate.
