Health Benefits Of Coriander

Come winter, the markets are flourishing with green leafy vegetables. Coriander is one of them. It attracts our attention with its mild but inescapable aroma. These leaves are added to variety of dishes to give out a distinct flavour. Coriander leaves are chopped and added, raw to the dish before serving the dish.

MEDICINAL BENEFITS OF CORIANDER LEAVES

CHOLESTEROL CONTROL:- Some of the acids present in coriander are very effective in reducing the cholesterol level in the blood. They also help in reducing the cholesterol deposition along the inner walls of the arteries and veins.

LIVER FUNCTIONING AND DIARRHOEA:- Coriander helps in curing diarrhoea and also ensures proper functioning of liver, because of components of essential oils present in it.

BP CONTROL:- Two spoons of ginger juice and two spoons of lemon juice mixed with two spoons of coriander seeds juice taken regularly helps in keeping blood pressure under control.

MOUTH ULCERS:- Coriander contains excellent antiseptic oil and other components that have anti-microbial and healing effects that do not let wounds and ulcers in the mouth go worse. They aid in healing ulcers and freshening up the breath. Coriander also helps cure inflammation, spasm and also acts as an expectorant, which helps in protecting and soothing liver. It is believed to be a natural aphrodisiac and was used in the combination of herbs in certain preparations to enhance libido.

CRACKS IN THE FEET:- To get relief from the cracks in the feet, apart from applying creams etc. take 100 gm of roasted jeera and 100 gm of roasted coriander seeds along with 100 gm sugar candy (misry). Make powder of all the ingredients and mix well and store in a bottle. Take one spoon of it daily to get quick relief from the crack.

DIGESTION:- Coriander is an excellent appetiser because of its rich essential oils. These oils help in secretion of digestive enzymes and juices in the stomach which help stimulate digestion and peristaltic motion.

SMALL POX:- The essential oils in coriander are rich in anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-infectious and detoxifying components and acids which help in curing small pox. They also reduce the pain and have a soothing effect on the pox patients.

EYE CARE:- Essential oils present in coriander contain lots of anti-oxidants, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and minerals like phosphorus. These prevent aging of eye, macular degeneration and also help in soothing eye against stress.

CONJUNCTIVITIS:- As corianders have very good disinfectant and anti-microbial properties, they protect the eyes from contagious diseases like conjunctivitis.

SKIN DISORDERS:- The anti-septic, anti-fungal properties of coriander help in curing disorders such as eczema, dryness and fungal infections.

BLOOD SUGAR:- Due to stimulating effect of coriander on the endocrine glands, the secretion of insulin is increased from pancreas which helps in proper assimilation of sugar and resultant fall in the sugar level in the blood. This is very beneficial for diabetic patients.

MENSTRUAL DISORDERS:- Being stimulating in nature and helping in proper secretion from endocrine glands, coriander also helps in proper secretion of the hormones which help in inducing proper menstrual cycles and also help in reducing pain during periods.

ANKLE PAIN:- Drinking coriander seeds decoction is beneficial for relief from ankle pain.

Coriander leaves possess anti-rheumatic and arthritic properties which are very beneficial for relief from swelling caused due to these two reasons.
