Netaji: Nagpur Or Indore?

Updated: December 10, 2011 3:48 pm

Nitin Gadkari, national president of BJP was previously state president of Maharashtra, but he is likely to shift his political base from Maharashtra to Madhya Pradesh. It is said that recently he conducted a survey in Nagpur constituency. The survey revealed that the people of Nagpur consider him more a businessman than a politician. It is widely known that Nagpur is a Congress seat and it will be very difficult for BJP to win from Nagpur. Following the outcome of the survey, Gadkari is now planning to contest from Indore, Madhya Pradesh considering the fact that Indore has a good number of Marathi voters and BJP has a very stronghold in this constituency. In Madhya Pradesh Gadkari is relying on Kailash Vijayvargiya instead of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chavan. More startling is that the equation between Gadkari and the CM is not well tuned.

Ajit’s Congress Mania

Mayawati’s trump card proposal of dividing Uttar Pradesh in four states has taken many by surprise that turned the equations upside down in the whole state. At the outset, Ajit Singh supported BSP’s proposal, but when Congress cleared its stand, he too had to change his. It is a stark fact that there is a dialogue in process between Ajit Singh and Congress on a pre-poll alliance in the state. Congress not only opposed the division proposal but also reminded saying that it is Centre’s job to decide the boundaries of a state. Now Ajit Singh also joined in the chorus with the same sweet volume. Though he has been fighting for a separate Harit Pradesh for a long time, now he says that it is only Centre’s power to decide the boundaries.

Again BJP-BJD Alliance!

The Jan Chetna Yatra of LK Advani ended in Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi. BJP leaders were seen euphoric that representatives of AIDMK and Republican Party also joined the Yatra in New Delhi. It is said that Advani tried hard to bring Navin Patnaik onto the stage. It is well known that during his Yatra in Odisha, Advani chose to stay mum on the corruption charges against the Navin government while the state BJP was too aggressive about it. At that time, Advani also allowed the speculations of possible BJP-BJD alliance. However, all from the grassroots workers to the state president of the Odisha BJP were deadly against any such possibility. BJP President Nitin Gadkari too denied any possibility of an alliance with BJD. It also seems interesting that Dharmendra Pradhan who happens to be the blue-eyed boy of Gadkari is supporting Advani on this issue.

Next Target?

Former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and TDP leader Chandra Babu Naidu was seen in New Delhi lately. While interacting with journalists he clarified that he was never involved in any corruption case. Later it was revealed that after pushing Jagan Mohan Reddy on the back foot Congress is now concentrating on Naidu. Income Tax department has sent him an investigation notice, also looking for other financial activities of Naidu.
