Congress still does not appear to be serious on the issue of 2G spectrum scam. It is substantiated by its indifferent approach towards the arrest of the ex-Telecom Minister A Raja. In fact, Congress leaders are of the view that this issue is not going to affect the Congress by any means. Instead they think that the arrest of A Raja would create more disputes in the DMK than in the Congress. One spokesperson of the Congress commented that it is nothing more than a family dispute for Karunanidhi. “His sons are against A Raja and they want him to be expelled from the party, while his daughter Kanimojhi is said to be very close to Raja and she wants to defend him,” he commented and added, “Karunanidhi is very confused and unable to take any decision. Therefore, it is not more than a family dispute and BJP is befooling people by making it a national issue.”
Nowadays, Congress CM of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan is looking very worried. Though his image is hitherto very clean, now his name may be dragged into the issue of CVC PJ Thomas. It is alleged that the Department of Personnel and Training had not provided the full information on PJ Thomas, which has created a lot of problem for the government. It is noteworthy that Prithviraj Chavan was the minister of the said department and it is alleged that he deliberately concealed the facts about PJ Thomas that he was charge-sheeted. It is said that his two rivals, who were CMs of Maharashtra before him, are after him. So don’t be surprised if Prithviraj Chavan is also shown the exit from the state politics.
The danger of being sacked is looming over the newly appointed Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister and former CM of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh. Though after being sacked on the issue of 26/11 he was awarded by a ministerial birth at the centre, he is still in big troubles. Recently, the Supreme Court found Deshmukh guilty of trying to shield Gokulchand Sananda, a money-lender, who is accused of being a reason of suicide of a farmer, and fined the state government Rs 10 lakh. It is to be noted that the son of that money-lender is a Congress MLA. It is said that Congress high command is very angry with Deshmukh. It was witnessed in a dinner party hosted by Deshmukh to the media persons. He was alone in the party, as no other party official turned up.
Congress leaders never forget to show off their ‘secular credentials’ at any occasion. Recently, Prime Minister addressed a meeting of Editors of some media groups. It was a coincidence that the meeting was held on the day of Eid-e-Milad, i.e. birthday of the Prophet. One Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari was also present at that meeting. He was dressed in a green T-shirt and was looking smart. When journalists asked him whether there was any special reason to be dressed so smart, he replied, “Try to understand. Today is the birthday of the Prophet.” It is quite obvious that he was referring to the green colour, which is related to the Muslim community.
